Costly mistakes you have made with gear...not at all parody

This is true.....and thankfully these days I have both. QC mini and a Soldano SLO-100R. I swap them out live regularly depending upon where I am playing.

Nice! Even though i vastly prefer real amps (and big iron at that) I think everyone should have one modeler or system they are comfortable with, if only because it's the best thing for woodshedding late at night or sketching riff or song ideas down on.

Even the most vehement digital hater here would undoubtedly benefit from it in certain situations

I'll be the first to admit though, that kids coming up learning on plug ins and modelers is a terrible thing for guitar though - honestly you shouldn't be allowed to get a modeler until you've played for 10 years or something

I have a counter for this.

Synergy. It has a line out that could go to the interface, right? And it sounds so fucking sexy with a 100 watt tube power amp..might be the best all in one situation

I mean yeah sure, but you can do the same thing with any amp - just get a two notes or whatever

Honestly that isn't the point, because either way you'll need a digital back end for IRs, so it isn't a counter, it's just an alternative amp option

You could always circumvent modelers be going with Synergy.

Damn you! You snuck your Synergy comment as I was typing mine.

Amps, Synergy, modelers... Like anything else, use the appropriate tool for the job.

both great pieces of gear but obviously completely different uses and purposes

it's a common meme, like this guitarmalade one:

The thing is, what the average guitar player needs is both

The modeler to woodshed at home, make decent sounding demos, and get a vague idea what a bunch of different amps and speakers sound like under a mic

And the amp to jam with real human beings, in a real room, and to learn how to control the guitar at volume on stage and with a band - which is apparently an anachronism at this point

Like towely, I think this is a situation where most people need to choose both.
I agree. For me I mean as much as I like analog and tube amps with tube prices now and all that it's good to have a modeler around.

It makes sense to have both and I also don't mind a solid digital delay aside from a solid analog one too. There is room for both and both make sense.

I love two notes speaker IRs. As good as the real thing and no fiddling with the mic

Everyone is either/or about amps and modelers and it just seems dumb to me

they both have instances where they are great and instances when they are shit

I dont have a high quality modeler. I think someone should buy me one
You don't need a high quality modeler. A Boss Katana or the Blackstar ID stuff ain't bad and Line 6 has a new affordable model based on the Helix stuff.

If you want something nicer you can check out a Boss Katana Artist Gen 3. I have a Gen 2 and the power section and models sound better than stock Katana. The 100w Waza is a pretty damn good take in a high powered Greenback that IMO actually sounds more like a Greenback than a Creamback or V30 or other higher powered Celestion.

Check out a Blackstar Silverline, they use a Sharc Processor too and they have a pretty good platform where they emulate different power sections. Boss Nextone Special does the same and is nicer even than the Katana Artist as good as that is IMO and I love the Artist Gen 2 I have. Not sure what else is out there now but there are some good options that don't cost too much and will do fine IMO.

And yeah you don't need to spend a bunch. These things aren't bad for example and cost 200 bucks you can get them at Musicians Friend, GC, SweetWater or wherever.

Cool thing is you can power it with a power bank so you can take it anywhere for practice or the park or to a friends house or whatever. Pretty neat and 200$, its not a big amp but it's pretty cool and it sounds decent and portable with a power bank and with a discount even better.

No, but I did drink in a few different bars when I was 18. Make friends with a couple bartenders and it wasn't all that difficult. Once they knew I was a musician it was pretty routine to get served...

I lived in Tahoe and worked at the Horizon casino for a while when I was under 21. It wasn't that difficult to hit slot machines underage especially if you dressed and carried yourself like an adult and kept a low profile. I also worked at a car wash nearby and sometimes got chips as tips and there was really only one way to use them. Caesar's was way more aggressive with enforcement in general than the other casinos IME. Security there were worse than the Stateline cops. who were some real pricks. To think that a determined kid couldn't get away with gambling in some of those places on a busy weekend is naive. Place was nuts....
Dude, I've been in casinos all over the country. Vegas in the 80s and many other since then. I also have a couple friends ( ex military) who were security guards at casinos. They are all deadly serious about security. And every inch of every casino is on camera and scrutinized constantly. Unless it's some podunk gas station with a few slots or video poker there is no fucking way a 14 year old kid gets in and gambles. No fucking way. You're either dreaming or you've never actually been in a casino.

In fact my buddy's band got a casino gig. Then had to turn it down unless he got a new guitar player because the kid was 18. They turned it down. And it was a regular gig for $2500/night.

They even offered me drinks.......they paid once an hour under an advertisement on slots at Pechanga and thats a pretty big Casino :dunno:

Visiting casinos as a tourist and working there every day are two different things. You don't know what you're talking about.
