Unfortunately I can’t agree with you there after an interaction I had with asking a question about his pedals, but I can’t say I’m not thinking about one of the amps.

oh man sorry to hear that. I did only have like a short conversation and it was pretty casual.
 
He told me a two month wait for my Iron Forge last week. No problem. I'm not in a hurry. I would like to try a 50 watt Marcus at some point. I like the Mark tones having owned a Mark III as well as the Synergy 2C but I tent to keep Marshall-ish amps.
 
If anyone wants to try them I can sell mine. The SLO and the Marcus. Saving for a Wizard 😛😛😛

I think he's reasonable for what he's charging. No name transformers, a chassis you could bend by staring too hard, pcb boards and wiring, etc... Don't get me wrong, they sound killer to me, and look like care went into the build, but... they are priced right for what you are getting IMO.
 
Bit the bullet on a 100w Iron Forge yesterday, 2 month build time which is reasonable. They look solid from the gut shot posted on the other Crab amp thread.

I really dug your clips of the Cali, it's sounds tight af and mean. I wonder how tight the Iron Forge will be in comparsion? it seems like it could vary by how the 3 gain pots are set because it seemed bass heavy on his demo but the tone was there.

It depends which variation of the Metalhead mod he based it on. They aren’t very consistent and most of them aren’t tight despite the Fear Factory association.

I do own one that is tight (even more so than my Mark III) but all of the other Elan mods and preamps I’ve played weren’t. I’m tempted to order an Iron Forge myself but I would hate to get it and find out it’s nothing like my real one.

It was pretty hard to decide from all the amp options he has. I'm digging the Cali big time. I figured another modded Marshall type would be cool. I really know nothing about Elan and his amps or mods.

How else did the tones differ between the Elan mods you've played other than tightness? Were they also less aggressive?

Toroidal transformers = noisy as fuck in a tube amp… and cheap as fuck too.

You could build a better kit amp yourself with better parts. Pass.

I would say so. They all had a lot of gain but the best way I could describe the difference is the one I own feels and sounds like it has a boost in front in comparison to the others I’ve tried.

I will keep this in the back of my mind. I have a few pieces of gear for sale so we will see!
