I went with the 1959 overwound - I have an Ultra II Strat on the way from Reverb and I'm almost positive I'm not going to like the noiseless pickups! LOL

Nice! I have a DG set with Alnico III magnets that I dearly love in my main strat. Something else is you can ask them to swap in whatever mags you want - just in case you were not aware.

You may like them, especially if you play with some distortion. The pups on the Ultra ll were greatly improved over the first iteration.

For like $100, it won't hurt to have another set on hand. I will say that the single coils can take some time to make, so he will have plenty enough time to see how he likes the stock set.
