In regards to the whole "thrashy" talk going on. Really the new Testament, not too great, or rather not too thrashy. New Overkill? Not too thrashy. All of the old thrash bands nowadays, just aren't too thrashy, and it's really sad. Destruction changed a bit but they still play thrash. Sodom... I don't know wtf happened there. Kreator also are still nice and thrashy.

Also, new Exodus... while I really enjoyed TOTD, the other albums, not too great really. SHKM had some good tracks, absolutely love Raze, but overall their albums as of late just aren't that thrashy.

It seems nowadays if we want thrash we need to look not to the old bands, but the new ones.

Also, whoever said Suicide Silence was good metal deserves a boot to the face.
c'mon dude...deathamphetimine has one of the greatest riffs ever in it. i could give a rat's ass about the rest of the song...that riff alone is worth the price of admission.
skeletonwitch is the shit! you forgot about demiricous tho. i don't know what everyone considers thrash these days but that shit is good as fuk.

i love suicide silence to death. u gonna put the boot to my face too? i get the idea from your posts that if other people dig it, you don't. not saying that's how you are, since i really don't "know" you but it seems that way. maybe i'm just weird. i love the sludge/crust/stoner stuff, right there with the death/black/deathcore stuff and still have time to throw in some glam or classic rock or metalcore or hardcore...whatever ya dig dude...it's all good.

Sorry to hear you like Suicide Silence. Deatrhcore is an abomination that needs to be exterminated. See though? You listed deathcore with death and black. Deathcore isn't metal, it's tough guy hardcore that wishes it was metal so it borrows from death metal infecting it with breakdowns and scene faggotry untill nothing remains but a massive pile of suck.

As for me liking things others don't and vice versa, well we both like crust don't we? I'm an opinionated motherfucker, anyone back from the HCAF days should remember that much. I also enjoy a good argument.

hahaha, anything with core in it these days is garbage, i must admit

I guess I don't get the sub-genre lable thing. Grindcore, deathcore, deathmetal. SS doesn't really sound "grindcore" to me it sounds like deathmetal to me. I don't have to label music, if I like it I listen,if I dont, I dont. I agree that most bands labeled "grindcore" such as Nasum,Pig Desroyer, etc I do not really care for. WTF is scene faggotry anyhow? :scared:
And isn't this thread about the new Metallica album?
I still like "All Nightmare long" even pre-fatty.

I totally agree with ya. Back in my day we used to have more or less 2 kinds of metal. Metal and Heavy Metal. And really, you can fit anything in those 2 categories. I guess its convenient that all these sub-core bands label themselves so I can ignore them easily. Scene is nothing but pop-culture garbage. I fucking hated that shit (hair metal) in the 80s and I still hate it now.

Yup in my day we had "poser" trash and Metal. At the rehersal facility we practiced at the metalheads and the poser/hair/glam band guys wouldn't even speek to each other. We took that shit serious. :gethim: Those were the good old days

I have to preface by saying that Im not a Metaliica fan by any means. Back in the day, I liked Ride The Lightning and I definitely liked MOP but overall, Ive always felt that they were hugely overrated but I begrudgingly respect them because theyve obviously influenced so many..

That said, my drummer gave me a copy of the new album last night at Rehearsal. I got a chance to listen to it on the way home and I couldnt believe how much I liked it!!! Theres an assload of catchy riffs IMO and I dug what I heard productionwise. Of course , this was after a loud practice so I have to give it a listen with fresh ears but for a guy that usually doesnt give Metallica the time of day, I found myself diggin much of what I heard.

It definitely sounds like they took a trip back to the time when they were putting out stuff that defined them and built their fanbase...

I was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to listening again..

Kage

Now that I would not have expected :)

There's some thrashing, some grooving...some early influences, some later influences..I like it..but can't listen to more than 2 or 3 songs at a time...the guitar tone or mastering (or whatever) just fatigues my ears.

I'll probably just buy the thing.

Then, I'll come back here and give a jonny come lately style review, hopefully triggering an in-depth debate on thrash metal.

Cause that would be great.

Its only a cd guys.

lame...so i've had to argue with the death metal haters about the guttural (so-called "cookie monster") vox...then i argue with the death metal fans about the "breakdowns" (back in my day we used to just call it "the cool part")...if i talk wit the old farts about the butt-rock i'm pretty much ignored...

2 of my favorite things in music are guttural vox and breakdowns (not just hardcore breakdowns, i also really love the old-school thrash breakdowns too) and they're pretty much the 2 most hated things on this board...and to top it all off, my fave band is slayer...who is hated all over this board too.
i have no gas whatsoever, haven't in a few years, and now i don't even play guitar 'cept on my practice amp at home...so i'm not really into the whole "gear" thing right now...wow, why do i come here?

Because we would all miss your avatar.

And besides we deathmetal guys need all the help we can get around here.

Ok fuck! SS was one of the bands I listed as listenable newer metal. I don't even own a CD from them, but if I did who the fuck cares? They're still better than GWAR.
Saxons Crusader album still kicks ass in a weak wierd sorta way.

Hehe prolly won't hear it again.

I listened to it and I dig it. I even like the tones. Tight and aggressive. Although like James said, I do hear a lot of clipping. It also sounds like Jamez has a bit more balls in his vocals on this one.

My bud downloaded it... sounds pretty  to me.

Although, after about 15 mins, I cued up some CLUTCH
