Sounds awesome

Listening back I miss how much that amp inspired me to play. That whole clip was improvised. Hoping to get a Bogner Ultra EL34 one day. The XTC wasn’t the meanest or highest gain amp at all but it had a musical grind to it.

I've got a 104BV now and have used 101b and 100b models. I didn't really like the 100 as much but the 101 and the 104 do metal just fine with no boosts other than the output control of the wireless IMO.

Old thread, but yeah, the XTC can do metal. It's very different from the Herbert. I've got a 101B and a Herbert Mk II. The XTC can get really raw and has plenty of gain, especially the red channel. The Herbert is compressed and more polished sounding with a MASSIVE low end that stays tight. Just two very different amps.

Do you find the Blue and Red channels on the 104 to be different that the corresponding channels on the 101B? If so...Please describe. Thanks!

It's been a while since I've used the 101B and it was mostly with different guitars but they seem fairly similar as best I can remember. The biggest difference is the addition of 80s mode on red, which is what I have it set to. Blue channel seems very similar - same semi-high-gain with a surprisingly useful lead voice it's always had. Both channels got a "modern" switch which seems to be voicing and some extra gain. So far I've mostly explored modern. I think that switch was taken from the 20th Ecstasy, but I've never played one of those. The H/L structure switch from the 101B is gone, and the power amp controls are different but seem functional.

So far I'm a happy owner. The lead tones in particular are very nice, and the addition of "Channel 0" is nice so I don't need a boost for blues type stuff. The channel numbering scheme is baffling though :p

Don't see a Fryette power supply or something equivalent.
How the fuck are you able to sit in front of the 101B at those volumes.?

For me, it’s sublime until stuff starts falling off of shelves, etc. The xtc is a seriously loud amp - I play at pretty stout levels, but we live in the country so it’s not a problem.

The 104BV has perfectly functional masters as far as I'm concerned. The 101Bs was OK too IIRC. Looks like he's using it for a notable cut in the video.

I was referring to the 101B.
NO MASTER

I did go to the Cave/Rolling Rock/Guitar-Amp lair and cranked the Gain channels volumes @12 o'clock
" Impressing"
