maybe i should rephrase this: will the d-moll do the channel 2 of the VH4, or is the D-Moll more of the channel 3?

Like someone else said, I would go for the VH2 if that’s what you’re after. Channel 2 on the D-Moll’s strength is its harmonically rich metal tones. However, I could get great Marshall tones on channel 1 with a Klon style boost (J Rockett Archer).

There are some really good tones inside the D-Moll...But it always felt a bit too soft and round. It lacked attack, and seemed "distant". I could see how a boost would benefit the amp.

that is honestly the best Dmoll description i have ever seen. That sums up my experience with the amp very succinctly!

The D-Moll was IME more like a not as good Herbert. Different sound than the VH4’s

been a while since I owned either amp, but I remember the Dmoll sharing more in common with the Herbert iirc. I liked both, but they had their own thing going on. I have a friend that uses the Dmoll straight in live with a death metal band, and the VH4 didn't do it for him. It has it's own magic however IME, I've been jonsing to try a VH2.

Weird. The Einstein is my favorite Diezel. It's all the good parts of the VH4, plus a bit of the Herbert, wrapped into one amp. The only major downside to that amp for me is having to choose which mode to use.

That said, I've been considering buying a VH4 just to see if my opinion has changed on it. I liked the Synergy module so much that I'm thinking maybe my tastes have changed and maybe it's not as boring sounding as I thought it was.

Probably the VH tones will get you there, I only had the D Moll and Hagen, but really Loved the Hagen a lot, sounds like my M Zero under my fingers

Yes I did, sold for a EL34 M Zero and has that same desisable thud I love, both are Glorious!
I have it at Ground Zero now for some Mods and can't wait, needed it a little meaner and leaner
