 I got an Elmwood modena 60 from Josh. Most unique amp I ever took into the studio. I absolutely love mine. Okay, they cost like a mutha! But correct me if I am wrong, SO DOES MOST ANYTHING ELSE THESE DAYS WORTH A CRAP!  So that being said, If you can find one, play one. If you can't  Then you will never know! I gotta give Josh and Hacksaw credit. They are the reason I ended up pulling the trigger for mine, based on their opinions which I value for the Elmwood stuff. Hell, Hacksaw loves them so much he has two at the present time and is lurking around if I know him good looking for the next deal on another. :D   BOTTOM LINE, MODENA 60, LOVE TONES IN A BOX!

Thanks for the replies! It sounds like the M60 is more my speed.

I know I am a big time EL34 fan, but the jury is still out on how I feel about KT88's.

I don't know man....my only gripe with it was that is was a very modern sounding amp if that makes sense ? Steve Snider has owned both and swears by the M90.

It freaking ruled the low volume realm, but when it got up to volume the Cornford crushed it...in fact Jason Wallis sort of laughed at the difference

Yeah...the amp left standing of the group is the Aiken ;)

I know how you feel. I went on a feel good trip over the kt-88's and asked a ton of questions about amps that ran kt-88's. I probably drove Greazy geo nuts asking about the Vht deliverance 60 and 120 heads that run 88's. But in the end, I AM A EL-34/34L GUY.   The modena 60 has a control on the back for lower end. Kinda like what Mark cameron does with his mods in a similiar kinda way. Hang in there. Ya gotta love gear detective work.

So Velcro, tell me about teh Cornford you had. What did you love and maybe not like so much about it? Lately, several of the guys are all talking, we gotta try the rk-100, ever tried that amp?

It depends more on the circuit the tubes are in, than the tubes themselves....

I actually did not like The Elmwood when I tried it but that's just me but Ive been known to like different stuff. I guess you can take my opinion with a grain of salt!!

I left thinking that there were way better sounding amps out there for the money.

I'll add my .02cents to the thread, tried the M90 right after a CAA and after diezel Vh4/Einstein/Herbie and I can tell it kicked serious asses. I loved the power of them KT88, and the mids were very thick and rich.

Maybe it's just my jackson.. but because of the BKP Ceramic-Warpig I have.. I had to CUT the bass to 3.5. Mids were all usable, which is always a plus to shape your tone.

HAHAH I am busted!! Yea.. your right man! Like you, Almost all my amps have this higher cost.   :D

heck yea.. I am 100% all the time now on two m60's now (and had no problem facing a cornford across the room, now the mesa simul 2:ninety beat me up LOL!!) I agree, running v30's, these are a great match for the elmwood. I take off the top end with the edge control on the back and treble on front. I think it has less top edge than a XTC, but not much less. The M60 and a XTC compliment each other GREAT. I like the elmwood cab that is front loaded best, then the marshall 1960 vintage cab (late 1980's). My scumback loaded splawn cabs sound great, too. I would be comfortable playing this amp through any decent cab.

I think I have had my elmwood for almost 2 years. Mine does have the Pentode Triode switch which I really like having the option. It took 6 months before I loved it, Elmwood was compared to my Cameron aldrich jcm800 and a few other amps like my cornford I had at the time, etc...

While high power and killing amps is fun, comes down to tone and response for the long haul. The Elmwood I think is at the top of the list for me. I like that modern yet mid rock tones I get from the amps.

Thanks to Josh @rebel amps for the suggestion of trying an Elmwood!

Went well bro! :D I think I would have enoyed the free dinner you got better haha. Was cool, 3/4 the way into the hour I was reading the precanned script commercials for the station. LOL..

I've played both and prefer the M90 and of course you can always do like Jan did for George Lynch and throw a pair of EL34's in the M90 if you absolutely want that tone. I personally think the KT88's crush anything in their path.

+1

60 is a mere pimple on the ass of the mighty 90. Not even remotely close IMHO. I dug the 60 but the 90 has everything it lacks.

LOL!! you must be a bass player
