ENGL Powerball/Amp Reccomendations

I have a powerball 1 and 6505+ here
The powerball has more saturation and a thicker and more modern sounding gain structure. The 6505+ gain sounds a bit fuzzy in comparison. Both amps are tight and can be boosted to get even tighter.

Clean channel is much much better on powerball, but the crunch channel on the 6505 is better to my ears if that matters.

For a modern metal tone the powerball sounds impressive to me...

So after reading through this thread, my observation and subsequently my first question, is why do you appear to be so focused on Engl?

It is well known most Engl's have a more "processed" sounding grain structure and while others have stated, and I will personally say, there have been plenty of other amps named here that would get a much more accurate direction to the sound you are after.

I'm not focused on them. But they have the type of attack and tightness I want. I do not like Peavey sounds. I'm not looking for a "modern" type of amp really. Getting that Iced Earth/ And Justice era tone aint happening thru a 5150. Without a doubt I am picky as all hell. And I like in an area where I cant play thru most amps unless its cheap Marshall or low end Peavey. I know they make some great stuff but thats just not what I'm lookin for. I like the German voicing really over the american Mesa types. Larry Dino, Diezel VH4, and a Uberschall are all amps at the top of my list.

Now I think I understand what you're going for here.

I love AE's tone on Rise of the Tyrant. Brutal as hell yet articulate. I'd love to get me an Uberschall. Budget atm is around $1000 if I end up getting rid of the Powerball.

If your budget is around $1000, have you tried a boosted JCM 800 with your guitar's tone control rolled off a bit?

Exactly. Give some a shot.

It seems as if OP is asking but not listening.

There is a lot of good advice, take some. There is a lot of knowledge on this board, most have more than me.

Well I'm done then if you're just gonna go there. How many times do I have to say I've heard all these Peaveys? Someone suggested I'd like the Blackm ore and I do then I get told I'm not listening.

I don't care what you do, that's your deal, but I am pretty sure that some of the tones you are try to cop are amps that you are overlooking.

I don't know what exactly you are going for. You can do well with $1k, you could do well with less and much better with more.

Look into a Splawn Nitro KT88 i snagged mine under a grand. Beast of an amp. May be right up your alley. Throw a boost out in front and it will rattle yout balls. For real. The only problem is that there are not a ton of clips out there that are used to make it with the heavy bottom end and massiveness it has. It may be a little dry for you, but I have a feeling that you may like it. And even the krank tbh. That was one of the most pissed off amps that I have had in a long time.

Don't be butthurt. That doesn't get you anywhere in life or music.

I have zero loyalty to Peavey, i don't even owb any of them currently and don't plan on one for a while.

Edit. I don't think that you saw my previous post. Check it out

If you say you are done, you can be done. I won't lose any sleep over it.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say the amp that the OP would like is the Fireball 100 or Savage 120. They are tight and saturated , good clarity and doesnt need a boost / tube screamer. Fireball 100 if you want a thicker more low mid tone and the Savage if you want more upper mids. Powerball II is a possibility but I never owned or played one , I had a first version Powerball and its ok at home but dissapears in a mix.

If the OP doesnt use a tubescreamer in front of his amps to tighten the lowend and saturated the gain then it makes sense he is looking towards ENGLs , they are one of the few amps that dont need a boost for those tones. Personally I love the 6505+ with a ts pedsl infront , with good tubes and the right settings with the tubescreamer in front it does any type of metal no problem .

If you’re gonna go Engl I’d go Artist/Blackmore, they sound the least ‘synthetic’ to me.

But my choice would be a D60, killer amp that compares to the best is the thump/clarity dept; and Iced Earth used them previously.
