How much gain does the Friedman have, compared to the 100s?

The HBE with sat switch has way enough gain for any use, it's all usable too, we'll maybe not fully dimmed but close.

Nothing can compare to the 100s gain levels, it's stupid IMO.

Can't wait to get my BE.

i found the 100s blue channel unuseable really compared the regular 100 watter , the blue is like another red channel on the 100s, Definitely aimed at metal players whereas the regular 5153 can cop a lot of tones , The brown eye has as much gain as the normal 5153 but it also really excells at the low gain crunch, and the clean channel is the best ive come across on a high gain head

No more amps for me the brown eye and the 5153 are my keepers nothing else needed.

To each his own. The Stealth is my dream amp. Knocked me off Splawn island and I did not think that could happen ever. Now I plug into my Nitro and the lack of gain and the dryness of the amp make me nuts. The volume taper is the deal breaker. And mind you I have gigged the Nitro since 2008. The amp did not change but my taste sure did.

On the 5153 set gain to taste. I had to crank the standard 100 and boost it to get where I wanted gain wise. On the S I never get higher that 11 oclock on the gain. The S to my ears has the 50 watt blue channel and a useable clean channel. Its that simple. There were a lot of gripes about the anemic blue channel on the standard and the S addresses this. Spend more than 24 hours with an amp and gig it a few times before giving reviews is my best advice.

To be fair Im not into the kind of riffs on this clip. For detuned chug chug chug I would be getting.....a Splawn Nitro. Im playing 80s hair metal with the Stealth and keep the gain dialed way lower than the OP. With those gain settings and EMG pups its just a bit messy. The amp has stupid amounts of gain but it does not mean you cannot dial it back.

I hear ya. I was married to the modded Marshall thing for years and never thought I would part with them. Got my VH4 and all the modded Marshalls all have new homes.

The blue channel on the original is perfect, it is a crunch channel. I can use that channel and play metal rhythms all day long, it has enough gain. The red channel kicks in where the blue stops, but with less growl and mid chunk. It great for aggressive down tuned chugg, as well as leads.

It progresses through all the channels seamlessly, as the S is a big pile of gain on all channels. What's the point of having that much gain? You cannot use it all, pointless. I love an amp that you can dime the gain and be able to use it. The gain on my original blue channel is dimmed and it just rips.

Like you said to each his own. But I never saw that many people returning a brand new amp as often as the S, I see them returned on a lot of forums.

Good for you that you found your dream tone, that's a great feeling to have.

Needs moar gain man... ;)

Seriously, sounds great. Needs to be cranked more though to get it to crunch, what are the levels at?

Nice chugg going on.

Clean sounded good too.

I returned mine cause it had too much gain!!!! I liked my original better, especially the blue. The red was great on the S though.

Chris

I retuned both my EVH 100watt and EVH-Stealth because I think the 50watt has it's own personal mojo over the bigger models... but hey that's just me...

The 50 watt has a nice musical sag to it and some personality that I just love.

The 100 watt feels a bit stiff (maybe not with lower tunings) and didn't have this "magic mid mojo" the 50 has in the toanz !

I bought another brand new 50watt EVH rig head and 2x12 cab over the weekend to celebrate how much I love the 50 WATT...

I hope you totaly dig the BE100, I had the Freidman stuff and it just didn't last long with me... I even went back played a "Girly Shirley" and a "BE100" like 50x over the past two weeks at my local GC and I just can't get into it at all... The Splawn quick Rod w the B+ mod is another story though...

...AND ME :)

I originally bought the 50 watt bc I had credit with Brad after preordering an item I realized I did not want. I bought the 50 for giggles and to flip. Love the50 watt but the shared eq killed any chance of a clean channel so I bought the 100 watt. I love the 100 watt but the Stealth gave me the 50 watt blue channel with a useable clean.

If the 50 wattwas a true 3 channel amp I would have stopped there. I love the 50 and use it as a backup. The red channel is so compressed on any 5153 model that I usually just stay on the blue anyway. I dont play detuned stuff but I can see the S getting really sloppy with too much gain. I think thats why a lot of them get returned. Its not a perfect machine but it is a lot of fun to play especially when you've been woodshedding on Splawns for 6 years.

As said already to each his own but I personally love the stealth..Yeah it has tons of gain on tap but geez it does have a knob that you can turn up or down lol.... I run the gain low on all channels and it's awesome. I was playing yesterday back to back with my original Evh and my peavey 5150II all great amps but the stealth is doing it for me most.

I don't think the clip on this thread is a great representation no offense .... Thank you to the dude for posting it though ..it's better than my non exsistant clips of the amp :)

You're welcome! That's just how it sounds with this setup and style :)
