What's also interesting to me is that the amp does not have a thump knob, but it sounds like you don't need it. Maybe because it's 100 watter?
Doesn't have one because the original Marshalls didn't have one. Sonically I think Dave was keep it originally and only upgrading the non-tonal stuff like switching.

Great to see new content from you! I remember watching your videos 10+ years ago. Arguably the best this amp has sounded in clips so far.
I agree with this completely, I didn’t have much interest in this either till now, this is much more in line with what I expected to hear from it. Yes, it’s not a gain monster for sure, but if you have the feel to get all those nuances and overtones (and Rocco clearly has them in spades) it will sound amazing in a way that you just can’t get with current monster gain circuits. I love monster gain circuits and I have more than a few of them here, but none of them sound like that.
I also noticed that when Rocco is alternate picking a chug it sounds like he’s playing all downstrokes, which is really fucking hard to do.
Well done lad 😍

@RoccoPezzin One last thing I want to mention -- at 11:30, I'm kind of surprised you were able to get that tone out of this head. It reminded me of my Mark IV a bit. This thing sounds like it can metal, so I'm not sure why people say it's just for rock.

Honestly, you can't trust people on the internet for good information. Even with the best of intentions, you are never going to read an opinion from someone who is going to experience the amp the same way you are.

Oh yeah it can definitely do classic heavy metal and even thrash, many of those records were boosted/modded Marshalls so it makes sense🤘

That is a sick demo. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately that amp will cost the same as a Toyota Prius in where I live.

Had to come back to listen again. I love all of the Demartini, Lynch, and Jake references.

Rocco, have you had a chance to compare this to the Plex?

I’m so happy with the Plex that I decided I have enough amps, if this video was one of the first ones there would’ve been less people who passed on the waitlist for sure🤙🏽

In addition, for those who don't know the kind of player Rocco is, do yourself a favor and subscribe to his page! He's the nicest as well. He used to help me with backing tracks before he got swamped. I'll always support his work.

Man thank you so much! I really appreciate it 🙏 Always enjoyed making those backing tracks🤘

Never had the chance to try the Plex so I really can't say. From what I've heard it may be more vintage sounding since it relies more on power amp distortion. It's also 50w vs 100w, so even if you set the Jose in Plex mode it will probably sound bolder than the Plex amp.

Just posted a video testing my new Friedman Jose, this thing is a beast. Tons of tonal options despite being a single-channel amp.

I have been a fan of your videos as well as your playing for many years now, and felt you were definitely a good guy based upon some past email interactions with you through the Fractal Forum.

Every time someone I know had mentioned checking out the AX8, I send them your AX8 video.

They always ended up getting one afterwards 😂

It was the reason I had purchased one as well

I think your playing on this Friedman Jose amp is stellar, and the amp sounds killer in your song mix.

However, I wasn't liking the amp by itself nearly as much as when it wasn't in the mix.

Did you add some EQ in your song mix?

I feel the amp by itself wouldn't sell me on the amp but hearing just your song mix (and playing) would have made me get this amp!!

Thanks for the kind words man! You know it's funny, the only thing different is that in the mix there's some reverb on the guitars from the Sunset Sound reverb by IK multimedia and some delay too (Waves H-delay), but other than that there's literally no difference between the two parts. I think what you're hearing is actually quite common though, meaning sometimes things in isolation can sound totally different compared to hearing them in a mix. The great thing about the Jose being not overly fat and bassy is it requires very little processing (if any) to sit in the mix right, plenty of space for the bass guitar to fill out the low end!

Why not use the axefx for these fx you mention above?
Good point I could have done that, I just prefer to track things dry and then add all the grease when I'm mixing. I like to automate reverbs and delay throws in certain sections so it just makes sense to have a dry track to do that. It also makes it easier to find the right effects for the mix. Another option could have been reamping the dry tracks into the Axefx but then it's a lot more work for not a lot more benefit, plugins are awesome for mixing!

Great vid Rocco!

I remember your demo of the BE-100 Deluxe helped me decide on getting that amp. Do you still have that amp or are you just rocking the Friedman Jose now. Curious to see what your amps of choice are now a few years later.
