Guys on TGP spend thousands and thousands for this tone.

I really dig Gregor Hilden & bought two of his recordings off iTunes. I posted a video like the one in this thread on TGP awhile back & the only responses I got were, "Penatonic Wankery", "Remedial Blues" etc. etc. Go figure.

Ditto... ;)

I do find that the me I sound like, tends to sound better/worse/different-- through different gear-- hence the variety of gear I/we enjoy.

I love every thread that has "TGP" in the title, always full of good times

But in all seriousness-pretty good tone there.

This man has OBVIOUSLY boiled his guitar strings, prior to recording the clip. That is where his tone is coming from.......and it does not hurt that the box that the mic is laying across is made out of rare quartersawn hardwood from the rainforest.

Not my kind of tone.

But, what is a Dual Rectifier Maverick???

It was their Class A, roots style amp they made for a while. I had one for a long time. It was nice, but in the end, yeah, it wasn't my kind of thing either. I've got plenty of preamp channels now that I can pull those kind of tones from. Of all the amps I've bought and sold, I miss that one the least.

I can only imagine watching someone with a Deizel, Bogner, or any high gain amp rocking in that same place and all those cd's come tumbling down! LOLOLOL I dont know about you guys, but I just cant imagine how much noise the room would be making with the rattles and what not if any of us was playing in there.

And I agree...the Maverick sounded better than the Dump-ble...

Maverick for the win.

BTW, his tone would improve if he replaced the pickup rings on that LP with a rhinosarous horn/plastic hybrid. This would allow more of the pickups' natural vibration to transfer to the wood in the body and neck of the guitar, ultimately creating more sustain and less congested low mids.

He has great tone because he has his mic sitting on top of a box instead of being in a mic stand. Everyone knows the box creates a more desired tone than stand. I also thing the behringer personal mixer is adding some flavor.
that's what I was thinking. every starving musician should know how much warmth a cardboard box brings

ZING! :hys:

Seriously though...if anyone spent $40K on 80s hair metal tone that would be the ultimate in hilarity.

It wouldn't surprise me if some have spent that going through amps. Maybe not on one amp but I'd bet it's happened going through multiple amps easy.
