Hi-Gainers that would give a Fender or a Vox......

Diezel Herbert..... you name the genre or tone and with the right speaker configuration you'll have it.

Framus Cobra has a killer clean channel, but not so much for lighter rock.

Engl Powerball has a great clean and rock sound.

how come there's no mention of a Mesa Mark V? I thought the clean/crunch sounds I got with it were fantastic!

Landry LS100.This thing whomps over the Shiva I had.
I really dug the clean sounds on the Landry when I played one last year. Lush and thick sounding, lots of definition. Great amp all around, and Bill is one hell of a player. We had a lot of fun playing Rush songs together

I really like the clean tone on the Mark IV, especially with split 'buckers.

A lot of the channel switchers have OK cleans. But the idea any of them are as good as a vintage Fender or Vox is silly to me.

Whatever you wanna call it. We had a vintage Fender & my Herbert in the local music shop I frequent at, we ran both through the same cabinet with Jensen speakers. I personally dug the Herbert more, because it had that modern vibe to it & more harmonic content. Some preferred the Fender, some the Herbert, but they were clearly in the same ballpark & it was a matter of taste. Now this was for cleans, for slightly overdriven tones it's a very different story.

Your right .... it is only a mater of taste. The single channel amps because the signal is not loaded down as much a lot of times is less compressed and fuller sounding. That is why I like the sound of the vintage amps over the channel switchers.

I'll give you the less compressed part, they also seem to have more sensitivity & attack, but I don't find them fuller at all.

Thank you. Definitely model material.

Custom Audio Electronics OD100. They can sound very "Fender Like".
+1000 for the OD100. Easily the best clean channel I've played to date on a high gain channel switcher. Even loaded with EL34's they have a stellar clean channel, but with 5881's it's a notch above IMO. I'd say Shiva after that. I had a Cameron Uberschall with a Shiva clean that was really, really good and equal to the Shiva I played in the Fender department. Next I'd say a Herbert, but way more compressed and modern sounding with no breakup to dial in.
