I cant believe I'm about to say this...

@Shreddy Mercury can't wait to see what PRS you grab. One of his axes is the final frontier, the last guitar purchase for me. Hopefully next year.

When I want a grand guitar (other than a great LPC), my Grail is a B.C. Rich Eagle, especially an Archtop.

A different animal, but there is nothing more desirable to me, and they are very rare.

Still want a PRS Custom tho. This is my favorite style:

Bro just called me gay.

For real tho...
I had a CU24 10-top in the late 90s. Great guitar, but it was so pretty that I was afraid to take it anywhere. Admittedly missed the late 70s LP Custom I sold to afford it.
I recently had a 97 CE24, that was fantastic, better than any current CE24 I've played.
I picked up this 2003 Artist CU24 in trade, thinking I'd flip it, to offset the $ of recent guitar purchases.
To my surprise, and utter dismay at possibly being gay, I absolutely dig it.
I haven't played enough modern Core models, other than the CE24s, to have an opinion, but I will say that it's totally worth it if you can find a late 90s-early 2000s to explore. They're pretty awesome. They may not out-Strat a Fender, or out-LP a Gibson. Comparison is the thief of all joy. Taken at their own merit, you just might find a killer guitar to add to the stable. It might even be in your top 3.
I'd recommend both, CE24 and CU24 based on my experience, and CU22 based on a friend's killer guitar.

Going back to, "Comparison is the thief of all joy."...
I can't tell you how many pedals or amps I've flipped because they didn't do one thing better than another. And totally slept on what they do well. So it might not be the best delay ever, but it brings out something unique in you're imagination. It might not be the Marshalliest modded Marshall, but it does sounds that no other amp does.
Fact of the matter is, they're all different colors to paint with. The trick is recognizing how that color works for you, and working with it.
Guilty as charged.

Sell em all and get a Tom Anderson, you'll thank me later!!
The PRS necks only sit in the body an 1/8" of an inch that's why they sounds so thin........

Andersons are fantastic. I've had a couple, and they both were amongst the best guitars I've ever played.
Some day I'll spec my own Icon HSS.
But beware buying used, unplayed. There are some stinkers out there.

Not all PRS guitars sound thin. Current CU24 and last CE24 both hang, soundwise.

I'm trying to figure this out....the Custom 24 is thinner than the 594 and Santana's tone is fat as hell so I'm not sure what you mean.

Which models are going to be the thicker ones with the fully carved tops? I don't like the S2s how they have a bit of a carve, then just plateau and are flat on top. That's very ugly imo. I looked at a 10 Top and it had a side view and looked like a big hunk of back wood with a nice carved maple cap on top.

How does PRSs 6 screw tremolo act?

The 594 double cut is like 1/8" thicker than the custom 24 and the single cut is around 2", so slightly thicker than the double. IME it doesn't make a whole lot of difference through a nice cranked amp playing neo soul licks.

I looked at some McCarty 594s, and while some are surprisingly affordable, I'd have to see how I feel about another guitar with that Les Paul style control scheme, which I do NOT like.

I like the 2 vol/2 tone but I hate the LP placement for the pickup toggle switch. My favorite switch arrangement is the 24-08 cause the toggeL is like a 335. The only issue is I'd rather have the 85/15's in the regular custom 24 vs the TCI or whatever in the 24-08.

90s McCarty or Custom 22
Early 2000s Singlecut

Those are the best models and years in my opinion.

The McCarty and Singlecuts have thicker bodies than the customs. The standards are even thinner.

The core models have fully carved tops, as do earlier CE (bolt on) and Standard (no maple top) models. The Singlecut and McCarty are the thickest of the carved models.

The 6-screw Milcom-type trem works well, although some people think the old ones with the integral block (actually made by Milcom) are better. They were replaced with a similar in-house model in the mid-90s.

I find them better than any fender strat trem, but obviously not the same as a floyd.

I can only speak to the older trems, dunno about the newer trems.
No flaws that I can find, for anything short of Floyd-like dives.

....but if I wanted to be gay and actually buy a US PRS, what is the go to model? I do like the carved top guitars, and while figured wood is great, I'm not opposed to a painted guitar. Since I've spent my entire adult life hating them because they're part Strat, part Les Paul, yet somehow cost more than both of them put together, I know very little about them. CE22, CE24, McCarty, bolt neck, set neck, confusion abounds. I do know the rotary selector is the dumbest invention of all, but I've never really spent any time with one.

Most times, when guys here post a NGD about a PRS and I dig the guitar, it tends to be a mid to late 90s US model. I don't really want an import, unless it's just too ballin' to ignore, but I gotta support my countrymen and buy USA if at all possible.

The double humbucker Fiore models look cool. Haven't had a chance to play one. No rotary switch, bolt on neck, ash body

that would be an Ernie Ball Music Man (and not gay at all; like a PRS)
