I cant believe I'm about to say this...

Fact of the matter is, they're all different colors to paint with. The trick is recognizing how that color works for you, and working with it.

I think this is a lesson that many people learn way too late, to their chagrin

I have accepted the fact that I am a les paul guy and will always be a les paul guy, and leaning into it instead of trying to avoid it

PRS never appealed to me.
I tried a few at GC over the decades
I guess im not gay

I've played a bunch of them over the years. Absolutely beautiful instruments, but I never played one that delivered in the way my old beater super-strats do for me.

I also remember seeing Rush live about 20 years ago when Alex was starting to switch back from PRS to Gibson, and man the Gibons sounded so much better when he switched to them mid-concert. Heck, I don't like how Gibons play generally, either. I'm just lowbrow.

I just think they should have a "you must be this tall to ride" sign where you have to play alternate picked 16th notes at 120bpm or else it literally disappears and reappears in a poor kids hands
You don't see too many authentically relic'ed PRS private reserves out there. For quite a few years I just assumed that it wasn't possible to scratch them.

Yeah no shit, because no one who actually plays live guitar plays them lol

It sucks because they are the perfect guitar for a lot of gigging players, but just by virtue of price and reputation they end up in "family photos" on TGP which i don't think is a fair for the guitars themselves. They are always excellently set up from the factory.

Their pickups used to be horrific imo, but they got a whole lot better in recent years too. That's one of the great things about paul - he actually spends time improving and innovating his guitars instead of trying to squeeze every last dime out of the consumer for nothing

It's sad because you do see a lot of gibsons with battle scars and wear, so it isn't just the price

If I had an 8k Private Reserve mine would be the only one all beat to shit, LOL.

I took an SE custom 24 home overnight but returned it cause I couldn't live without the 335 I found and I couldn't afford both. It was amazingly well set up from the factory and the 85/15's were pretty sweet pickups and the wide thin neck is an ideal shape for me. What's weird is the SE line has 3 piece necks for cost savings but to be perfectly honest if I had my own USA signature I'd want a 3 piece for the additional stability. As a gigging player I consider it a plus in any guitar because if there is one thing I hate it's adjusting truss rods, setting bridge height, and intonating when I could be playing guitar.

It's really funny because like 90% of the time when someone is like "that's not true, I play my private reserve live"

By "live" they mean blues jams at the coffee shop, playing "la grange" at the county fair, and playing guitar in the pit with sheet music to "Les Miserables" and "Cats" - so not actually playing live

I haven't seen a dude with a PRS at a blues jam since 2011. He was one of those board shorts-bare feet dudes that probably fixes people's teeth or legal problems during the week.

I know of a couple local players that actually gig a PRS. One is a funk sort of guy and the other is a sort of pseudo Santana.

Back when I played emo you would see them, especially single cut McCartys

But in the punk scene? Literally never

Yeah there's actually very few better options for the working musician. There's getting to be more guitars with coil taps etc. but still VERY few with as good a set of hum-free sounds.

And they play really well.

But most of them sit. You see a few that got a nu metal gorilla for their human that are beat to shit but other than that it's all chiropractors and appellate attorneys.

Tim Mahony plays nothing but PRS guitars and he has a funky / metal / Santana rock thing going on

Honestly that's really sad to me because they are really great guitars

Them being so desirable to the wrong people has turned an entire generation of gigging players off of them

I saw Bugs Henderson thrashing one in a small club, back in the day. I've seen plenty of pro bands in the early 2000s playing em.
See em make an appearance on the local club circuit every now then.

yeah man, that's the point we were making - no one plays them now :ROFLMAO:

and honestly it sucks because they are really great guitars, and if people weren't turned off by them because of their reputation they would be a lot more popular now

It's weird because the first time I ever saw them advertised must've been around 89-90 in GFTPM magazine I think, and they were marketed using hair metal type guys. Then all of a sudden in the 90's they became associated with rich dude's office decor. Seems like the bias is starting to shift away from that image just based on having an SE line that is actually affordable for the average guitarist.

We need to start a tan pants band and bring back the PRSi to live music. #takingovertheworld
