Look for an old front loaded Mesa. The recordings with GK100 that I liked were all front loads. If you want really brutal sound, crunchy, but not all wimpy & overly saturated like most of today's stuff, that's your cabinet. The cool thing about these cabs is the super transparent low end, very much like how bass cabs handle the low end.

I agree that Dave's Marshall sounded better. I think the Meathead sounded great with the Mills and the Marshalls much better with the Recto.

I'll be bringing my Engl V30 front loaded cab for demoing the Natas for the upcoming Fortinfest!

Your style did sound good through the Mills and that makes sense since most of the K100 / Mills guys play styles like yours.

Maybe I can get my v30 CAE cab there in one piece this time and not shear off the input

You guys who may have dismissed the Mills need to hear it with all V30s, or other midrange heavy speakers (GBs, 65s). I can say from first hand experience the Mills is hyper sensitive to speaker selection, dramatically changing its character, due to its transparent nature. By contrast, I had an old Wizard cab which did not sound very different going from GBs to H30s to V30s, etc. The Mills literally sounds like a different cab altogether with varying speakers. And K100s are one of the last speakers I'd put in a Mills due to its extremely bassy and scooped nature.

And before I'm accused of being a Mills fanboy, I'll say I like my Bogners just as much. They're certainly different enough to justify keeping. The Bogners are more sensitive to speaker selection than the Wizard, but not as much as the Mills.

As Thegame pointed out I have a splawn 4x12 with eminence govnors and Man-o-wars and I do NOt like the sound I get with that cabinet, I am also using a krankenstein cab witht he eminence texas heat speakers and I like it better, combined they sound better as a team but they are VERY loose sounding cabinets, I think it's mostly because I have played the splawn for 5 years at loud gig volume, however I was not a fan of the speakers to begin with. I want to put V30s in the cab first before I sell it. I had a mesa on loan from work and liked it much better. I've yet to hear Gary's Mills cabinets, but I do want to try them VERY VERY much

I had the Mills loaded with all K100s and all V30s. It didn't do it for me either way.

I'm still searching. I'd love a Mode Four 4x12 straight, but I'm looking for one in mint condition.

The defensiveness/sensitivity in this thread is gold.

Who cares if someone doesn't like something you do, deal with it.

Every variant of a cab (size, wood, damping, covering) causes a change that reacts with any given speakers & can -/+ your opinion. And that also depends a lot on your amp, guitar & playing style.

Just gotta try a few things & be happy.
However you know that in the end Youll NEVER be happy, cuz thats life!!

I am actually 100% happy with my other cabinets. They do what I want them to do. Now, I just need a fourth for my G12K100s.

Well too bad you did not know Ralph back in 2007 when this forum did a group buy of 10 JVMs and had them all in one place demoing them all to make sure they worked before shipping them all out.

I think me and Killertone are the last two to own them from that buy.

They had reliability issues, eh?

If it sounds good it is good. If it doesn't break, it's better!

Naw, just checking them all out before they were shipped to various forumites. I believe all ten were good to go

Mine has been to 50-60 jams and 3 years old, still kicking.

I was testing cabs and speakers with the Cameron. Didn't care for anything low wattage or vintage like Greenback's or H30's. V30's too grainy. CL80's not doing it for me either. Loaded 4-K100's in the Mills Afterburner and holy shit my friend, that is the one for me. I am very surprised that this works. I bought the K100's for the Herbert, but thought it sounded like ass and forgot about them. Didn't notice which amp you were trying to match up.

Anyway, I am running a Mills 212 with 2xEV Black Labels on bottom and a Mills 412 with 4xK100's. It just does well for this amp, and I it certainly doesn't work for all. I have Mesa, Marshall, Mills and Diezel cabs and had a Bogner. When you get inside, none of them are built like a Mills. Not being a Mills fanboi here, but they are the best that I have bought and for the same money. I have another one on order being built.

As the girls say, "size does matter" :D and the Mills AB proves it.

This is why it is cool that we have forums where you can find guys who dig the same tones as you to get info because I hated the Mills with k100s but then again you probably would not like my suggestions of using h30s and GBs with the Cameron :D

In the end it is all good, we find what we need and go from there

or do what I do and get cabs to house every speaker you can afford

you wont regret getting a vader cab so tight and punchy god i love those

I have a theory that 4 MATCHING speakers should have a more solid & tighter feel than mixed pairs etc, due to the fact that resonant peaks match..
THEORY was the word here, cuz ive never actually NOTICED that difference, & it might be a pretty slight difference at that... ;)

Yeah I know u werent trying to imply that, just a random thought to throw out there...

After years of A/Bing, I think you're right. Mixing speakers often gives a cool blend, but isn't quite as solid as all matching ones.
