I think the Badlander might just be a better Recto

Call me crazy, but I think the guys at Mesa really knew what they were doing with the Badlander.

Turn it on and just play, sounds great. Just fricken RIPS!

My dual rectifier has me questioning my settings every time I play it. Finally think I got it where I want it?!?

Great amp, but not very Rectoish and not really comparable. IMO they should have omitted that from it’s title.
It never got a fair shake due to it’s lack of excessive low end and the “wall of sound” factor.
Agree it is a good amp within the Rectifier world but not an apples to apples comparison.

Still prefer a Triple Rectifier and a good boost pedal. That brutal wall of sound is a key component of the Rectifiers, which the Badlander does not have.

This has always been my problem with the Mesa Rectifier series for me...I find myself constantly tweaking...Almost like it sounds different every time I use it...But never quite "right"

That is what I am experiencing as well, no so with the badlander....it is like a good marshall in the sense that you can set it and leave it alone.

The newer stuff they’ve been doing is a lot more friendly, starting around the small mark vs and on with the Badlander, MKVII, and even the reissues sort of streamline the finickyness quite well

I sorta think it is a recto/jcm 800 cross.

It cuts. And records like a champ.
Agreed. My Badlander sits kind of in between my Multi-watt and old 2204. Ya, it doesn't have the huge low end and there is more upper mid content. But there are still plenty of those Recto low-mids in there (with the 100w Badlander at least) and that becomes apparent if I A/B with my 800.

I love mine.

I think you might be right. When i tried one in a store i dialed it in in 10 seconds and was done.

I really wanted them to come up with a badlander with the 150 watt power section.. I think that would be awesome.

I love the Badlander but they should not have called it a Recto at all. It’s an amp that on its own in a room sometimes I feel like it’s missing something, but every time I use it in a band it fits like a glove.

It’s definitely one of the better amps they’ve put out in recent years that doesn’t get enough love. I have the 50w rack version mounted into my desk, ready to rock through a cab or load box anytime.

I actually love the clean mode with the gain dimed, great baseline crunch tone that takes a boost beautifully.

I think the badlander doesn't get a fair shake because it's not the reissue recto or trying to be

It's honestly an excellent amp, it's just not a multiwatt or whatever
