Honestly I love the Fortin Cali clips but was underwhelmed with the Fortin VM clips I've heard. Would love to try one of the Fortin modded JVMs Ralph is selling though. Ralphs ears are gold. If he says it killer I typically agree with him.

Not a fan of the VM clips as well, goes to show everything Mike does is not for everyone and I love his work

Ralph is the reason I went with Fortin, Ralph has some of the best ears I have witnessed.

Ok back to SLO, Here is one of my favs even though the quality is not that great. My man Flying Angus tearing it up with a boosted SLO w/d/w with a detune patch using an Eventide.

I love hearing Angus play!

Jim, you should just try and get a Cali mod. If there was a way I would send you mine so you could try it out. I think you would love it.

Scott, Dan and Ralph were the reasons I gave the Cali a shot. Glad I did!

There was something about the modded Vintage Modern that I didn't like at all, not sure what it was. It seemed to need some volume. I'd have to hear one of the modded JVM's in person. But a stock JVM doesn't need anymore gain than it already has.

That Fly Angus clip is cool! I never really liked SLO's based on ten minutes I spent on one at the old Tone Merchants. I had this one come in a couple of months ago and didn't like it at first. After a couple of twists of the EQ knobs to something that would not have worked on my normal amps, I thought it sounded killer. Bronco on Rig Talk snagged it from me and I recorded this clip for him before I shipped it.

Curt,

That sounds killer!!! Eric, said he had picked up an SLO and was in love with it; I didn't realize he got it from you. I'm not sure if it's the guitar/cab/speaker combo you've got going on or just the way you have it dialed in, but that really sounds fantastic...warmer, fuller and less fizzy than what I'm used to hearing from an SLO. I gotta get my clone finished after this deployment is up; I've had the chassis and transformers sitting in my closet forever. I'm trying to fight the urge to change anything and just build it 100% stock and assess it objectively before I start tweaking it. Thanks for the clip; great playing as always.

I had the JVM410. The 3rd and 4th channels did nothing for me. Like you said they had loads of gain but the voicing did nothing for me. I always bosted the 2nd channel with a Keeley SD-1. Then I tried the Vintage Modern and that was it for the JVM. If I'm gonna boost a Marshall the VM is it for me.

On a side note here's a nother 80's shredder type guitar that looks sooooooo sexy!!

Well, after hearing your clip I would say you did a fantastic job on your build. That was killer tone!

I own this amp now. Of all the amps I've owned it's my favorite.
Killer tone. I'm glad I picked it up.

It's funny, I had the exact same experience that Curt had at first; I could totally tell it was a quality amp, but frankly I was underwhelmed. Thankfully I gave it some time, and I am so glad I did...my all time favorite amp, hands down. It does exaclty what I want it to, which is accurately represent 'my' sound. I'm playing mine through a Port City OS 2x12 loaded with M75s, which probably tend to smooth it out some as well.
