Les Pauls....

I guess I'm in the minority here (shocking, I know!!) but I don't get the whole PRS thing..I can't get my fat sausage fingers to be comfortable on them....but if I pick up an LP that's set up to my liking I can fist small third world nations with it...

then again, it's a preference thing...some builds/necks are going to be more comfy for an individual than another....

you can argue build quality between brands...but as far as 'guitar x rips guitar y a new one in terms of playability, which is why you should get one!!!' is really a non argument...it's an individual preference..

I've got to agree with you here, I think playability can be subjective as well. At least to a point.

yep....all things being equal of course..can't really judge a guitar with a typical guitar center setup when they're tuned to Q and have action you can sail a boat under =D

One of the best guitars i have ever played  Go get one

The funny thing is that this sickness swings the other way as well. I've played Les Pauls dominately for the past 20 years. I keep wanting a strat, but I have a hard time playing them. The damn volume knob is just in the damn way. I've owned a few nice strats, but always end up going back to a Les Paul, because it just feels like home to me.

I've TRIED very hard to like PRS. While the guitars are certainly top-notch build-wise, they do nothing for me tone or playing wise. Compared to a great les paul, a comparable PRS comes off as sterile and stiff. Again this is all MY opinion. Fuck them both... I can't afford either... LOL! :D

Ok....you bastards with the Goldtops aren't helping either :D

I seem to like the double cream Goldtops and the Lemonburst (or lemondrop?) the best.

That MLP forum is dangerous for a man with GAS

yeah man, I just got my first les paul and it's amazing. I don't know how much difference the Suhr Aldrich pickup in the bridge makes (it came installed), but the tone is so THICK and meaty! Chugging in a drop D type tuning feels like swinging around a sledgehammer!

Love the way they look, love the way they sound, can't play them worth a shit.

:) Same boat. I've played exactly one LP that I ever really really liked, and I should have bought it, because it was love at first chord :)

Most of the ones I pick up, I just don't like the feel of at all. Not sure if its just a setup thing, or what.

I have the same issue with Fenders (but in that case I've never played one I liked)

YEAH!!!!!! I find the PRS necks to be too damn wide at the nut..they're built nice and your'e either going to dig or not dig the looks (I don't dig the looks) and the electronics (I find a rotary pickup switch to be dumb), but their necks are like baseball bats...

I played an anderson tele that was the same way...built well, sounded good but the neck was like a tree trunk

Yup. While the LP neck isn't exactly thin, it just feels better to me for some reason. Even the SC245 (which is the same spec as the LP) still feels sterile and stiff by comparison.

I don't have any other pictures of my old Goldtop, but here's one of it with double cream pickups. I'm really wanting another one.

I'm must the opposite as you. If I could, the only guitar I'd ever play is a Les Paul, I can't get used to other guitars.

Second from the right, and the Goldtop are KILLER

Bottom line:

As with any manufacturer, there will be bad examples to go along with the good examples. :2thumbsup:

But once you play a good one, you'll know what all the Les Paul hype is about.

These are mine, and they are going no where.

Gary Moore (original, not BFG), 1957 Les Paul Special (the real deal), Les Paul Gothic.

Well I've been a Les Paul user for years, love them but due to a shoulder injury started selling them all off.
I bought a couple of Suhrs and as much as I love them I dusted off the Les Paul this weekend and it was like coming home, not as well built or set up, heavy as shit, but it was just me. I found recently I just don't suit the look of a strat round my neck lol and the 24 fret neck Modern is confusing me hahaha.

Bliddy guitars man and GAS eh ? :D :D

after all of these pics and awsome flame tops

...

..

nope.

still no gas for one!

i have never liked a les paul, and never will. heavy, terrible upper fret access, shorter scale, set necks, no floyd, and iffy production build quality.

That's why I'm looking for a used Axcess ;) ;)
