Lynch at NAMM

No denying that George Lynch is one of the greatest, most influential rock guitar wizards ever! Gotta love his playing; and the tone on the vid is smoking hot. Do you know anything about the speaker cabinet he was blasting through?

I do agree that when the celebrity agrees to do a face-to-face with fans, he should be friendly. (Asking for autographs and pictures is acceptable, however he is not obligated to give away his gear to everyone who asks.)

With regard to his moodiness, maybe he's one of those overly sensitive, overly self-critical musician types. (Like the rest of us.) Or maybe he was having a bad day. Or maybe he's got a lot of personal problems and needs support, friends, and prayers.

Thanks for sharing this!!!

Is the Morley appearance just because he sponsors yet another piece of gear that he doesn't play? I don't think I have ever seen him play a Morley live. In fact, does he use the wah much? Mostly just phaser?

I'm probably in the minority here but watched the Morley booth video and did not like it at all. I could hear the strings pinging, his sleeve rubbing against the fret board, his leather boots squeaking....basically anything except actual music from a guitar. So much talent but sometimes I don't know what that guy is thinking. From a tele-type guitar that is not what I would have played and the delay was not good for that jam in my opinion.

I’ve met George a couple of times (in non-playing situations), and he was much nicer than I expected.

The issue (for me) is, you never quite know which Lynch is showing up for the show; the Mr. Scary version, or George Lynch the Jeff Beck fan. :D

I’ll take Mr. Scary, please.

I remember he had that a/b/y (or a/b/c?) box with Morley. The "triple" something. Always thought it was pretty damn funny someone would do a sig a/b/y switcher. Maybe still doing multiple house payments at the time lol
He sounded great through that Randall in the 2015 vid.

FWIW the clip in the OP is from 2015 , this clip is from 2018

I did not know that. Interesting... I like the 2015 clip better. :D

He had some amp issues, but it's cool to hear him thru the Randall Thrasher... and he still sounds like classic GL.

Wow, that’s embarrassing. Terrible.

I figured some would bag on him....

Haters gonna hate. Carry on.
So, if people *still* give props to his playing, but are just a bit fed up with some diva-ish antics aside from the playing, dems be haters?

Wow... ;)
You must hate it when someone brings up donuts in an Yngwie-thread, huh? :checkthisout:

Yeah a friend of mine was working on a business related thing with him and got the "Kiss of Death" version of George.  Said he was a real jerk. I know celebrities have stress, relationship issues, etc. like anyone else so I get it.

my 3 cents fwiw and that ain't much :

i really like the kxm stuff and ordered autographed copies

i also like the project he did with angelo from fishbone

i was never a dokken fan at ALL-i could listen to the solos but that was it for me
a chick i was dating back in the day was way into it so i HAD to hear it

i met George once and he was a total dick to me for no reason at all.

the first lynch mob album was decent, but by 1990 i was into jazz/fusion/electronic music and my ears were bored with that style.

watching the 2015 video reminds me how much George's vocabulary is rooted in so cal EVH
a good 60-70% of what he does is right out of the EVH playbook for better or worse,

that morley video is sad

the end!

LOL! I was pretty much laughing at every other line I read. :)

I remember years ago George cut back on the gain to get a more "raw?" tone where you could hear his fingers digging into the strings, etc. I have no problem with cutting back on gain but he is not as articulate on the fretboard as he used to be so when he is doing those little licks and you are hearing a bunch of flat notes here and there, it is sad.

A shame he was a dick to you. I've heard that from people too many times. Was he just short with you or irritated? Just curious what was making him annoyed?

There was a time when I would geek out over meeting someone like Lynch, but those days are gone. It seems silly to me these days. He’s a human being, like us, who just happens to have an immense talent for playing rock guitar and who had the right look and was at the right place at the right time in the right decade. I’ve met many talented guitar players who live in obscurity. I’m sure you guys have, too. There are many very talented guitarists on this forum. I’m NOT knocking anyone who would want to meet the guy and get his autograph. If that’s your thing, that’s your thing. I’m saying all this as a Lynch fan.

Yeah that is a good point. For all of us Lynch fans, there are probably tons of kids that pass him at NAMM and think he is a janitor or something. :)

You know when you meet famous people that are cool, it makes people that are not cool seem more like assholes. I've met a bunch of famous people moving around in the military, etc. and some were really cool. Tupac Shakur was nicer than you would expect as was Anthony Michael Hall (16 Candles, Weird Science).

I went and saw Whitesnake about two years ago and this band from Ireland called The Answer was opening. At the end of the set the lead singer yells "hope to see you after the show to have a beer and make some friends!" to the crowd. I thought, yeah you hear that stage banter all the time from bands. I go out to get a beer and that guy is standing there with a beer waiting for people to come up and talk to him. :) Got a picture with him and had a beer and was super cool.

George was totally cool when I met him. Maybe he's a bit moody, maybe he can be less effusive around annoying people, who knows. There were Lynch fanboys at this particular clinic that were huge douchebags to me, trying to act like they knew everything about him and couldn't stop bragging about the cool gear they had as they tried to buddy-up to Lynch. He actually let us hold his Tiger guitar, and the guy next to me wouldn't even take his hand off it when he passed it to me. I'm like, he didn't GIVE it to YOU, dick. Let me hold the damn thing for a second! You'd think in a tiny room with maybe 25 people there just to see GL, you guys could chill the fuck out and stop pretending like you own this guy. We're all fans, and we all are here for the same reason.

Maybe that explains why he is like that at things like that. People getting overly obnoxious, etc. at those things. I met Dave Friedman and the guitarist from Seduce (Decline of Western Civilization II movie) and both were really cool but just looked burned out from tons of questions, people asking if they could try out stuff, etc. It would get old.

I met up with Robert Keeley at the same event with another friend of ours from high school and we went to lunch to talk about old times and just get him away from the pedals and the noise for awhile. He said "Dude, I can't talk about pedals right now. I'll talk about anything in the world but pedals". LOL! You get at those NAMM, etc. shows and there is all that noise around you and a constant flow of fans. NAMM has to be worse than the thing I was at.

Being a George Lynch/Dokken fan, I was happy to see this video with Don & George putting their differences aside for a jam. I couldn't help it though that the other guitarist Ira Black was musically trying to upstage Lynch during his solo by playing the solo at the same time Lynch was soloing. I thought it was pretty rude of Ira Black of stepping on Lynch's toes, musically speaking, by not allowing to share the stage as a musical guest. I can understand being competitive & showcasing your talent, but upstaging a musical guest isn't cool or shows that you're better than the other musicians. The rhythm section played great, but I look at Ira Black as a douchebag for not showing any musical respect to Lynch onstage.

^^I saw that and feel the same.. I had no idea who the guy was though, to me he is a no name.. but yeah, not cool unless they agreed to something like this beforehand

Anybody know when this was recorded?

The audio is ass... to much static/fizz. Sucks too cause I'd love to hear GL thru the MZero amps.

The other guy needs to cut his hair or tie it back... something... I'm all for long hair... when it interferes with your playing... enough. We get it, you like rock/metal. We feel ya.

It looks like it was recorded at one of the NAMM 2018 after party all star jam type of event and was posted on YouTube over a week ago. The video was recorded with a smartphone with the guy probably standing in the audience which was probably why the audio has static & fizz in it. It is what it is at the moment concerning the audio.
