i HATED it. If you're going to go solid state or Hybrid, get a randall
I have a Fender ROC-PRO 1000. Its pretty rippin for a hybrid....and for 200 bucks on da bay :yes:

Well, what the hell...this amp is on its way to me, lol. I've been looking for an el-cheapo, loud amp for certain rehearsals and to drag around for drunken open mic things.

Quite a few years back I nabbed a Randall Cyclone for a similarly cheap price. Some hate for that amp too, but a little tweaking and careful use of the onboard graphic EQ and you could get some nice hard rock (and metal) tones out of the thing. Cleans were decent too - a passable platform for modelling floor-based preamp thingies. Unfortunately, that Randall recently gave up the ghost and I'd sooner toss it in the fire pit (I mean, we literally will toss it in the fire pit) than get it repaired.

Easy come easy go with these things I guess. :)

I had one when they first came out. I was less than impressed myself...thought the Randall SS stuff kicked its ass.

I loved the cabinet though. They got those right in terms of both build quality and speakers.

a friend of mine recently sold his for $650 aussie after trying for about 3 months. 5150's sell for about $1200-1600 here as a gauge

I've seen them for sale for all kinds of retarded prices, the only ones I've actually seem sell were around $350 or less.....

They also had 70w Vintage 30's in the cabs.

MF280=V30
MF400=G12K100

I have a mode four cab with the V30's and it kicks major ass. Same size as a Recto (oversized).

Just bought a MF280 straight cab from GC used section. It was in perfect condition and $299. I don't actually have it yet since the release date isn't until 7/2. I'll see how it compares to my other cabs and return it if I don't like it. Just got rid of a slant cab and wanted another straight one. I like V30s, so I hope these V30MFs sound good as well.

Just bought a Mode 4 in apparently excellent condition on ebay for 390.00 plus 55.00 shipping with the footswitch and paper manual. Bought it because I played one a friend owns a few times and found it to sound unlike anything I ever played. The solid state power amp has this "breathy" quality, dark but with a certain edgy "sheen" that presents crunchy comp chords in a very dramatic and "modern" sounding envelope, like a very urban blues or R&B sensibility. I believe that was on the OD 1 channel, but I'm going to have to wait until mine arrives to confirm. His was running through a 4 X 12 with 25 watt Greenbacks I was told.

:lol: :LOL: Welcome to the forum....and you have officially brought this thread back from the dead! Congrats on the amp. I played with a Maiden tribute band last year and the other player had one...he had more of a modern tone and I suggested more mids, more mids etc. He just couldn't get it dialed in right for a Maiden tribute tone...so he ditched it for a 6505. Much better for Maiden...but maybe he needed more time with it? I've always heard it was Marshalls modern tone attempt.....

I had a Mode 4. It was my first head and somehow it sounded good in the store. Once I got it home I realized the clean and loop were great but the distortion was all buzzy/fuzzy undefined garble gook. I ran a DS1 in front for a slight OD and a Metal Zone for my main distortion. Believe it or not I would get compliments on my tone but I knew it had its limitations.

Besides the sound, I played a gig where the outlet didn't have a properly wired ground. I turned it on and it completely shut off after a second or two. Long story short, something with the engineering/design that if the amp doesn't have a proper ground it fries the SS power section. I took it to an authorized tech and he fixed it (fortunately it was covered under warranty). I asked the tech what he recommends I do moving forward and he said "get a nice tube head". Which I have since done and haven't looked back. On a side note, I did purchase and use a Tripp Lite ISOTEL Ultra (see below) which immediately tells you if the outlet you're plugging into is properly wired. I once ran an extension cord into the kitchen of a bar because the outlets where we setup were all "fault". I refuse to plug into an outlet that is at "fault" unless someone is willing to sign off on gear repairs/responsibility. It's soooooo not worth it.

I remember when these first came out hearing that the guy from System of a Down was playing them. I knew then that they had to suck. :lol: :LOL:

Thanks for the interesting comments! have to get the isotel, great idea for ALL my amps !! I fried the transformer of a Line 6 DT50 (all tube head btw) right out of my bedroom wall when our power went off, possibly due to some kind of surge in the line. Thankfully it was on standby or I guess the whole board would have gone. I had it behind a surge protector too.

I bought the Mode 4 just to have another kind of sound option, but I'll let you know if I keep it or not. I actually bought it trying to keep myself from buying a more expensive dual rec tremoverb head and 2x12 matching tweed Mesa cab with flight case, but it didn't work... :( I also can't seem to pare down a picture to 89 kb or less
