Marshall superlead clips. VH1 tone

I'm having Ralle's 2203 mod done (described on the Metro forum - it doesn't completely turn the amp into a 2203, but incorporates some aspects) as well as adding a Jose Master to bring the overall volume down. Means I'll not be using the 4th preamp tube anymore.... Bass Volume becomes master, Treble Volume becomes Gain, and the Power Dampening becomes the Jose Master :loco:

It is clear I have lost my mind...

Please PM me when you get it back, I am dying to get your impression. What are they charging you for the mod?

OH the anticipation. I REALLY hope this works out as expected, as I'm sure you do too.

whats the jose master? is it easy to install?

Just do a search on the Metro Amps forum and you'll find everything you need including a schematic. Looks pretty easy to install. It is just a form of PPIMV...

I'll PM you when I have it. Not sure the exact cost yet... it will be based on number of hours put in...

I'm sure I'll get something interesting out of this experiment.

Awesome, I'm sure you will get something VERY cool.

Thanks... Did they give you an estimated completion time???

Well... the guys on the Metro Amp board don't seem to think so, however, I've got a good feeling about this or something... :D

Nah, he gave me an estimate of the number of hours, however, not the real time. The tech is a guy Curt (Chubtone) knows that has retubed/biased his PeaceMaker for him. He worked for Jose in the early 80s and just does this on the side now for fun and the love of TONE...

What is the concern regarding the estimated result???

The guys at the metro forums reaction is very strange to me. I for on thought that they would be hip to the idea. That said, everything that you are doing is more then reversible, so why anyone on that site is weirded out is beyond me especially since they should know this.

Rockstah said I'm not gonna get what I want because of the PM trannys... Another guy did not provide details and said I would not get what I want. I responded with my thoughts but haven't heard back yet...

That is what I thought too.

I saw that thread and had to laugh. These guys tweak all day, wires hanging out of their amps and shit, and you adding a couple of totally reversible mods to the Peacemaker is 'butchering' it??

I like that forum, but lots of members over there are quick to turn up their noses at anything that isn't kit-built. They don't want to believe that anything off-the-shelf (PM, Variplex, HW, etc) can hang with their kits, when obviously in some cases they can and in some cases the off-the-shelf amp is much better in many ways.

IMHO...

Yeah, I was a little confused at that comment myself.

good stuff bro. I have two echoplexes and a replex and the way you are setting that is almost exactly how i set mine. I like the recording concept of two mic's in that configuration as well, however lately Im placing one them in the rear inside the cab and unscrewing the 4X12 back panel ( pain in the ass, but pretty interesting results)

Anthony

Cool. I'm only using two mics to get one that is Replex'd through my insert on the mic pre. Otherwise they are basically identical sound. What does your micing technique yield? Sounds interesting...

Steve

I like that(your) approach and have used that before wet/dry into mic-pre but instead of an echo device I used a old fender reverb tank cause I was going after panning reverb effect u hear on early VH records and actually the early scorps U. Roth period...German reverb plates. Ummmm so so far its yielded kind of a "darker" sort of sound that honestly what I'm trying to go after is what I'm hearing in the 1979 Fresno VH concert ( 1st night gig bootleg of the soundboard recording)...There is something going on there that I can't put my finger on and I'm not ncessarily a VH tone chaser, but that Chamber effect is what i'm going after...kinda hard to explain. You can hear it on the record too VH II, but its blatant on that bootleg. I'm still experimenting and when i get a chance, I'll record a clip of two various methods and post it. I'm definitely gonna try your approach as well with the echoplex or replex.

thanks man

Sounds good! I look forward to those clips!

It's all good

BTW, killer clip- especially with your TV volume etc... qualifier.

Love the Lexicon tone mixed in there too. What was the delay time set at?- like 600mS. Works GREAT!!!

Which is REALLY odd, since the Peacemaker is a hand built PTP amp.
