Mesa Rectoverb OR Tremoverb... which would you pick?

Hands down Rectoverb. Great if you play in a band that plays small clubs and bars! Easier to get into the sweet zone than the tremoverb. Amazing amp. So thick and juicy!

Old thread bump.........but I've gone through some Recto's over the past few months. Roadster combo, Triple Recto Reborn, Dual Reborn, and non of them really floated my boat. Stock....I don't like them at all, boost them with a good OD pedal and it's better. But I was still constantly fiddling with the controls never really 100% happy and was always thinking that they need an extra $400-$500 in mods from FJA or someone.

But I saw a Rectoverb in a GC, plugged in and I thought it was tighter and had more gain than any of the one's I owned, and it was just a 1x12 combo. It was crunchy and gainy and I could have used it without a pedal. Really, I thought it smoked the Roadster. Sure it wasn't as versatile but who cares because I'd rather take 1 or 2 great tones over a bunch of half ass one's.

So, are Tremoverb combos similar to the Rectoverb?

I gigged a Tremoverb head and Rivera Los Lobottom cab for about 5 years in the 90's and liked it a lot. Honestly I would have been playing another amp had I not checked out the Tremoverb in the store because every other Rectifier I played did nothing for me.... at all. I actually called them Raspifiers because of the fuzzy top end. The Tremoverb had nothing like that and was more what I was looking for.

In a band I was in about 20 years ago the other guitar player had a Rectoverb. It was a long time ago... But I remember it being more harsh and not as full as my Tremoverb. Not near as versatile. The gian seemed about the same.....but not sure about that. If it is what you want I have no idea. I completely agree with ejecta post.
When I first meet Ed Degenaro I thought it was interesting we set the controls almost identical. I usually use a Hot Plate. It removes some of the rasping / highend and allows me run the poweramp loud enough to get what I want. Head a bias put on his and that got rid of the poweramp running cold. I just ran tubes that did the same thing. 8 or higher on the groove tube scale.

I usually run the master between 1&3 o'clock on the orange channel. I also noticed each amp sounds pretty different. I had three Tremoverbs in front of me at the same time they all sounded very different. Never heard a other one that sounded like mine. That is part of the reason I do not sell it.
