Was the MKVII the last real Randal engineered Mesa product and where does it stand now?

Randall's last project at Mesa was either the Mark VII or the IIC+ Reissue. He did them both. (It was probably the Mark IIC+ RI as that came out after the Mark VII).

Either way, the Mark VII is an awesome amp. It doesn't feel like a jack of all trades master of none like how some people describe the Mark V. Also the VII's IIC+ mode in particular is fantastic and its IV mode is as aggressive and modern as anything.

I think it was the MKVII; IIRC he wasn't too fond of the IIC+ reissue - I could be wrong here.

I'm so mark IVa biased. i think the mark IVa is THE BEST OF ALL OF THE MARKS, having had may different factory c+'s back in the day, i always stayed with the iv and took the money and ran with the c+'s.

with that said, i really do want to own a mark 7 for a minute just to run it through the ringer. the way people describe it, its pretty solid. i've heard NOTHING close to a negative review of the 7. i think they had the pre/power sections on lock down, and it was just a matter of making "ideal" switching work. i mean i loved the mark V, but the IV felt more "organic"/"raw"/"you suck and the amp isn't going to help" but not by much.

If I could change something about the Mark VII, it would be to remove the reverb tank and replace the three reverb knobs with NFB knobs that do what the Mark IV's push/pull Presence pot did, because I like having the option on the IV and use both from time to time.

Otherwise its core tones are great.

IV was my fav until I got my mark 3 ++ greenie

I've had 2 Mark III Simulclass, one a purple one a blue, a Mark IVB, a IIB Coliseum loop moded and my current the Mark VII. The VII is my favorite amp ever. The Coli was amazing but tough to have good cleans and drive and it was the loudest amp I have ever experienced. Literally master off in 180 watt mode was already eviction level. I didn't like the harsh top end of the IIIs I had and the IV had something about the lower mids that I didn't like. The VII in IIC+ mode sounds like the IIB+ Coliseum but with better volume taper. VII mode gets me Marshally 80s tones and the cleans are amazing. Highly recommend trying one out. It's killed my gas.

I really enjoyed the mark iv. But the dual rec is still king for me of the Mesa line
