Most Dissappointing Piece of Gear You've Ever Bought?

Engl Fireball 60, a buzzy P.O.S. that got lost in any type of band situation.

Jackson PC -1, the neck felt like a baseball bat
Engl Savage, dont even get me started!

This thread has been going for a while, so I guess I'll contribute. I can honestly say that I've only been disappointed with two things I ever bought. First one was a DOD Flanger pedal. I was 12 and my older friend suggested that my first pedal should be a flanger. I was young and naive and thought it was gonna make me sound like VH.  There was nothing wrong with the pedal at all. It was just bad advice and my dumb ass expectations.
Only purchase that I've really been disappointed with was the Mako Mak4 preamp. Back in 1990 or 1991 I almost bought a Mesa MKIV. The guy from the music store had one and brought his down to our practice space so I could hear it live in my band. Didn't like it at all. I ended up buying a Marshall JCM900 50 watt DR and was totally happy with my sound for the next 5 years. I ran straight into the 900 and the head powered a Marshall 4x12. Went direct out of the head into a Marshall 9005 tube power amp(one side) and that powered another 4x12.

Peavey XXX. Zero balance in the tones. Highs took from the lows, mids were worthless. I've heard other people make them sound good and it could've been something wrong with the one that I had, but I've owned a lot of Peavey heads and never thought of them as unworkable until that one. Maybe a lemon, but not stoked on giving those another try.

I also hated the triple x, but at least it worked. The Digidesign Eleven rack I bought had a fault with its internal clock witch I didn't notice at first, primarily since I used it so little. But after a while I wanted to use it in the studio, and then the problems came home to roost. The fucker has a habit of not giving up a sound on startup, so you actually have to reset it in order to get a sound from it.

Tried to contact Avid, but they didn't want to help since i didn't have a a receipt for it (couldn't remember where I bought the damned thing). Didn't help that people all over the world has had the same problem with it. Stuck with it now, but I will NEVER buy another product from Digidesign ever again. :gethim:

A Hiwatt channel switching 100 watt head in the late 80s...OH IT SUCKED !

Carvin Legacy

THIS. I bought a brand new Carvin Legacy halfstack direct from Carvin because I was/am a massive Vai fanboy. Once it arrived, I fired it up and my heart sank when I hit that first power chord.

I gigged it for 4 years trying various tweaks, boosts, etc. Ended up trading it for $500 worth of recording gear (about a $1000 loss on my part) after trying to sell it for months and getting NO bites :aww:

I will say it has a brilliant clean channel, is LOUD as hell and was very reliable (never even blew a power tube) but the lead channel is worthless for rhythm playing. If you were soling 100% of the time it would be fine for that

It just was not my style AT ALL.

JetCity JCA20H due to lack of that clean channel of the first edition.

Carvin G12 speakers

ELEVEN rack cause can't stand the MODELER THING. Nothing is better then the real thing!!

I had the same problem with my XXX years ago. I did some research at the time & had an amp tech upgraded the electronics to 1000ohm resistors so I could house the JJ E34L Tubes. It made the amp sound pretty decent after that. The footswitch & lead wasn't particularly well made either.

One of the worst buys I ever made was the G-Major 2. Sold it within a couple of weeks. Not a bad unit, but wasn't for me. I had more luck buying single purpose stomp effects.

XXX was my first legit tube amp and I really dug it. I ran it thru a Genz Benz 4x12 and it slayed.

This was my experience. The TripleX and Gflex 212 was my first tube, non combo set up and at the time I thought it was awesome. That being said now that I have some experience and have gone through a LOT more gear - I couldn't ever go back. :D

The worst piece of gear for me was a Fender Cyber Twin I received as a Christmas present one year. It did a lot of different tones but they all sounded like garbage to my ears. Big let down for me.

Marshall Silver Jubilee head. Horrible, even *GASP*, the diode clipping section could not save it.

LOL I hated my Eleven Rack, and I like good modelers!

I bought the hype of the MKV. Unfortunately I bought the amp as well. Not that it was terrible, it was just a let down. It does not get the cleans or gain of my old MKIIC, and the other modes are just pretty good copies of a slice of an old amp. I expected more.

One other thing I don't like but just accept, is the stock LP pickups just are lacking. I like a few aftermarket flavors so it isn't a huge deal. Just an annoyance. I have a new new premium plus Fireburst. Pups sound brittle compared to Suhr, Motor City, or Dimarzio.

a robin super strat
piece by piece it fell apart in about 6 months, with just basic gigging and band practice.
first the input jack, then the tremolo -floyd copy
then the tuners
then the neck
biggest hunk of crap i ever owned
fucking garbage

Marshall Silver Jubilee 25/50 watter - no balls, crappy tone

JSX - killer tones, a lot of potential, but had a god awful hum that would not go away even with nothing plugged in

Peavey 5150II. Sounded good when it worked, but was extremely unreliable. It eventually just died and I gave it away.

Randall RG75 combo for me. Not the worst thing in the world, but the only thing in my price range at the time.

The clean channel doesn't have even a hint of sparkle even with the treble up full, just dull and lifeless, and the gain channel might as well be called the "grain channel".

Can't believe people are saying the DSL2000. First "proper" amp I ever had and it ruled! Bought a half stack 2nd hand for £700 and sold it for the same amount a few years later.
