I thought it sounded great from clips I heard. It's a shame you don't seem that impressed.

Most of the youtube clips are from Slash bedroom wannabes playing Night Train. I also think lots of men are expecting modern metal wall of bass tones from it. This clip sold me on it and I don't even like Slash that much. I will post my unbiased opinion as well when mine arrives. Le Gusta?

Was it the scarf that sold you on that clip, Don? Come on, we're all friends here.

As for the AFD, I should hope it's a little different than anything else out there, and something unique and independent from the rest of the line up. But otherwise, it's just marketing. I'd be interested if Slash came on stage with an entire backline of these during his tour. Bingo, then there's something to be said.

That one sounded a lot better...

In the end it's the same with every amp I think. You really need to hear it in person with someone who knows how to dial it in.

let's put it this way, if he was a member here comparing his new Natas to the CCV, he would be getting virtual ass slaps and warm and fuzzy congrats

Every forum has their darlings that's for sure.

I agree and thats why im not ready to judge the afd 100 till i can play it with my guitars and cabs.

I don't understand the obsession with massive bass in guitar tones. There just needs to be enough meat to make it balanced but there's bass guitar for a reason. I think that Italian vid sounds awesome and I've seen a few others that sound good too. I bet with an old school bass tone (not clacky, clacky but thumpy, thumpy) that would mix like a dream in a rock band. Plus it has a loop, throw a graphic in there, bump the bass to your hearts content. If the mids and treble aren't rich and detailed it aint' worth anything. This amp seems to have that. That crappy AFD vid has even crappier audio. The Jub circuit has always had a ton more low end available than any Marshall I've played.

When i was running the #34 spec in my 2204 I found the master volume had to be pinned. This means you need to attenuate for it to fill out. Put that power scaling to test and crank the master.

As for the AFD tone itself, recording and mic placement as well as the room were without a doubt huge reasons for that tone. Having an amp that thin on its own tone wise may be the reason why many people think it is a bust. Still looks interesting to me though..

What's funny to me is Slash has always had a thin but cutting sound and when he has an authentic sig head released people complain it's too thin

I wouldn't look for the YJM to be any better. In the NAMM youtube clips where the AFD and YJM are played back to back, the AFD sounds better to me. In the Andertons videos with that Chappers guy, the AFD demos sound MUCH better to me than the YJM demos. I do think both amps sound pretty good for what they are. If you need more low end get a JVM or switch to bass.

Good or bad I think they did a pretty good job capturing Slashes tone.

Wow....thanks for the honest review. I new the AFD would tank, just buy a Quickrod for those kinda tones... Sounds way better and it's cheaper.

The new AFD tanked? I doubt Marshall and most of the lucky owners of this amp feel that way. How many Splawns are being sold for a premium?

I'm satisfied with the AFD. If it was my only amp I would be bummed simply for the lack of any good clean tones. That would be an easy fix with effects etc though.

Slash is using the AFD on his current tour. And, the amp didn't tank. No stores have extra that weren't pre-ordered. The store selling them on eBay has them listed at 2899$.

The AFD channel nails the tone on that album. I don't really see how #34 is the tone from UYI or any of the new stuff. Maybe I need an OD pedal to get better tones. Actually, if any of you own the amp I would love to know your settings.

The comparison between the Levi modded 2203 and the AFD will be the true test. Stay tuned!

None of these amps have quleed

None of these amps have quelled my GAS for a KS modded Plexi from Dave Friedman though!

yea they been selling for high prices but im not shocked considering i sold 3 gibson tom murphy aged slash guitars and a goldtop back in 2008 and made 7k in profits on them, slash stuff sells and i saw some slash afd that sold for 2500,2700 and 2750, so its no shock to me that its been a good seller for marshall and the dealers. so like him or hate him theres money to be made on slash.

Here are some pics....and a few more for fun.

i've been seeing them pop up on local forums here in europe , some with like less than an hour playtime, craziness

the demos on the youtube i've heard have been good so it's a bit surprising the one posted in this thread was really not convincing however =0 sound wise, curious to see how the YJM amp sounds like, a local dealer will have one in at some stage

What would you do if the dogs knocked over a Les Paul & broke a headstock?

When I heard them back to back at NAMM I preferred the AFD. It was more together whereas I thought the YJM was a bit spastic sounding. That probably makes no sense.
