That's great that you got it going again! I hope it sounds good and you're back to playing it!

Unfortunately tube mortality happens.....
Yep! The TADS that came with it, had stickers that per TAD meant they were tested. Ugh. And, what's crazier is they all tested at 85% on my tester, where 80 is minimum good...meanwhile my 1994 Sovtek 5881s tested at 115%! 30 year old USED tubes testing WAY stronger than 'tested' new production...arrgh.

I’ll have to wait and let sober me decide.
The Bad Cat showed up yesterday and Napalms thoughts were spot on. Until it got good and warmed up. Sounded exactly like he described until it was on for 5-6 hours. It’s very picky about speakers. It hated the 1960 with t-75’s and the Avatar with V30’s and T75’s ( my favorite cab). After 2-3 hours of messing with it , I finally found the promised land. The trusty Blue voodoo 4x12 w V30’s. It certainly has its own thing going on. Not a Marshall. Not a Mesa. Not a Peavey. It’s a killer amp. Very hard to dial in due to the sensitivity of all of the pots. It’s definitely a keeper. I was bummed at first but now I’m sold.

I only have Creambacks, so I didn't get to really experiment.. But I hated it. It was a woofy mess. WAY too much bass, WAY too much gain. Really had to crank the mids, really scoopy. The controls were not subtle. Seemed like it was excessive in any direction. The gain went from zero to Jesus Christ that's way too much.

Glad you dig it! I'm not a patient person. I spent a couple hours with it, then grabbed the box and a tape gun. ?

How can something be tested to 115%? Genuine question:) I’ve seen that with power tubes before

I will say that the gate sucks.

Good question...I guess on my tester, the gauge shows the 'good' range starts at 80, up till '100' where it states new tube range, then tops at 120...so anything above 100 which is the 'new' tube mark is just even better haha.
This was a late 50s/early 60s suitcase tube tester that TV/Radio repairmen probably used to go into homes with and 'test' the tubes at the residences.

Yeah! Played it for a couple of hours on Saturday..

Congrats man.

I've played a few Bad Cat amps and twas impressed.
