People with multiple EQ pedals: why don't you just buy gear that sounds good?

I dont have an eq, but i used to run one before the amp and one in the loop. It was the one time where I chose to have multiple custom guitars and had a rg150 SS head that sounded damn near blasphemous. I decided then that no matter how great your guitars are, you gotta have a great amp for solid tone.
