The python used on Warren's guitar was from a young snake that Warren saw on a camping trip when he was 13 years old. Every year his family went back to that camping spot and Warren and his brother would scout around to find that snake. Once Ratt hit it big, when they would tour in that area, the bus driver would pull over and Warren and the rest of the band would go out and look for the snake, stage clothes, hair spray, make up and all. Thirteen years after Warren saw the snake for the first time, he was scouting the campground with Stephen Pearcy. They found the snake and it wasn't doing well. Warren sat for days with the ailing snake, feeding it water with an eye dropper and chewing up small rodents and spitting them into the snakes mouth because it was too weak to feed itself.

Finally, the great python breathed it's last breath. In a fitting tribute to the majestic beast, Warren immortalized it by having it glued to the body of his guitar. Each time Warren plays or writes music with this guitar, all proceeds are donated to the Python Protection Society. Through the peaceful, serene and natural death by old age of this great creature, over 70,000 young pythons have benefited.

Nice story... seems like a load of crap if you ask me :dunno:

Fix your sarcasm meter...

This is the best thing I will read on the internet today. Thank you

I heard this story in the past as well. Believe the Snake was dubbed "Slimey or Slippery" or something like that.

Reptiles are part of the animal kingdom dumbass, they are ANIMALS too. AND MANY "animals" will kill you. doesnt make it right to adorn your musical instruments with their skin. don't be a dumbass about this. go read and learn about the Animal Kingdom. Snakes are included.

I'm with Rez on this one. Don't give me that "the place is over-run with 'em" bullshit. This planet is over-run with people. Start with making boots and guitars out of some of those ass-holes.

Looks like the DeMartini "Snake" Strat has real Python, hard to tell in pics.

Im not into ALSO killing animals to play music. I kill enough for food and some clothing...but GEEZ do I really need to ALSO kill a fucking snake for a guitar now?
I don't like it.

Wow, you sure do have a lot of guilt for someone that has no blood on his hands. I mean you live in Califormica, "Land of the liberal and Home of the freeway", dismiss the guilt and grow a pair testiculars and realize that anything that isn't killing you is a possible resource to use at your own discretion. It's still America, abuse the shit out of your environment and let your grandkids figure it out, that's the way God wanted it or he wouldn't have created Aqua net. ;)

Maybe Enya's looking for a new guitar player, I'm sure you two could sit around and talk quinoa salad recipes and the destruction of the ozone layer through noxious gas emitting herbivores.

Florida has a serious snake problem that threatens the very existence of the Everglades Eco-structure.

Guitars or no guitars.

I beg your pardon?

Each generation has it's musical activists. The Woodstock generation was full of them but the 80's they were few and far between. That's why I believe it is very important that RATT gets recognized for their unparalleled philanthropy. While other LA bands were driving fast cars, dating Playboy models and strippers, snorting cocaine, depleting the ozone with Aqua Net, partying their asses off and playing wild graphics Charvels, Ratt were busy trying to make the world a better place.

Since their is some doubt about the truth of my story, it was taken directly from the June 1984 issue of National Geopgraphic magazine. Here are some photos from that same issue. The first photo shows Ratt on horseback in their normal dress, searching for the python. The second shows Ratt in a gun battle with poachers. That an LA rock band would risk their lives to protect snakes is something I personally feel they don't get enough credit for.

Boy Ratt was one mean bunch of Varmints. (With hearts of gold)
They Founded PETA from what I understand.
But would shoot a man dead if he looked at them funny.
Yes I read that National Geographic article as well.
