X2Ns kick ass  I'm using them in the bridge and neck of a V that I have I'm pretty impressed

Haha yeh the funny thing when I used them on certain guitars while still using the JB's on the others, All of them were the same wood.
Some people would say the X2N guitars sounded better, But when I told them what pick-up it was they would back track

  Some people are X2N haters man, I never understood it, if it sounds good it sounds good, I don't give a shit what it is. FWIW though, I have noticed that most pickup snobs are Duncan snobs, and for some reason those are really my least favorite kinds of pickups, I HATE most duncans. They just seem to be more mediocre at everything than really good at anything. :dunno:

Haha I guess I am the Antichrist for those people I always have used Duncan JB bridge pick-ups with either a Paf Pro neck bucker or The Fast Tracks pick a number single coil depending on the guitar pickup routes..

Cool. Would be interested to hear about the wood choice, etc. I've built all of mine, and am extremely meticulous about every detail, specific nut width, fret size, etc...but that's another thread. Since I switched back from EMGs, have just been trying Duncans, but wouldn't mind trying something else.
The JB8 is supposed to be like a JB "one louder"...besides blades vs. polepieces, isn't an X2N similar to a regular JB as far as the magnet (A5 in the JB at least...) and wind? They both get the rep of the mid-spike that people either love or describe as "Icepicky"....

Alder body guitars always seemed to suit me best and gel with how I play..

Musikraft is a couple Miles down the road from me, And the guy that I started using for repairs carries the Musikraft Jamerson or JamesCo guitars???
I think they are demo guitars so that you can test out their product quality along with sound comparisons with the difference in wood materials and ect..
They all have no paint so you can see the wood used and ect to...
After playing most of them I was like fuck these are nice and the quality is top notch..
Them being down the road from me and being a U.S. Made product how can I not support that since I want a new guitar..
So I am going to build a guitar with their product.

You are probably right about the JB & X2N being similar
The Mid spike and Icepicky tone I do Not get probably because Tone wise with amp settings I use less Mids & Presence...
But I have never had a problem with that Myth of not cutting through the mix so maybe the pick-ups contributed to that...

Haha dam maybe I should just get an X2N

Maybe...I've never tried a JB in my guitars, but never hated them in any other guitar I've played. Jerry Cantrell swore by them until very recently, that's enough for me...lol.

I haven't tried Musikraft necks yet, about to - but I got a 1-piece Ash Strat body for a build from them (the one in my sig) that is gorgeous, and indeed top-notch.

Yeh you might be right with both pickups being the same, comparing what Motorpud says with the X2N's haters and what you say with JB Haters, I have heard that a lot to...

I like Jerry tone didnt know he switched pick-up but he still sounds like Jerry to me

The guitar I am doing is their best grade Alder body Charvel Dinky body, 2 humbuckers, Comfort heel... already ordered..
With their best grade Maple neck with Ebony board... Have not ordered it yet going to check out some of their profiles..
The guitars I have checked also have way different headstocks than what they offer publicly..
The headstock kinda resembles the Washburn Nuno guitars but a little bit more aggressive..

Yeah, I've seen it on the Jamerson Ebay page...very Nuno-esque.

Minus the extra $1-3k

Yup, that's why I build my own...little factoid$ like that..and I still get exactly what I want! Win-win! :D

that luxxtone review sounds very consistent with James Lugo's pickup shootout

never tried the aldrich, but I'm loving my afwayu/2nd degree black belt set
the afwayu reminds me of my previous nailbomb, but much middier (exactly what I was looking for)
like wade stated: "it's like the mids want to explode"

the BKP holy diver is probably the pickup I miss the most tonewise
it's not as hot and aggressive as the afwayu and nailbomb, but more fluid and open
even more Jerry Cantrell sounding than the afwayu

Imjust put a holydiver set on yesterday. It sounds great, but not as hot as i had hoped. Its not as hot as the JB it replaced it seems. I dig it though.

Oh damnit this statement has me really wanting to try the Afwayu now...

Never understood pickup snobbery (I use Duncan Humbuckers mostly, but like Dimarzio Virtual Vintage "singles"), I mean if it sounds good to you, it IS good...

Haven't heard that many Dimarzio 'buckers I like, but I'm sure there's cool ones out there...though I will say them patenting double-creams coils (when it's not like they invented the color) is kinda goofy...

Anyone try the BARE KNUCKLE PAINKILLER?
How does it compare to the SOLUTION?

you just happen to be lucky that you played Duncans and DID like what you hear that's all.

trust me if you didn't you'd be in the same boat as the rest of us swapping Pickups. They make such a huge difference, considering the pickup is a form of pre distortion EQ it is responsible for a large part of the subsequent amplifiers distortion voicing.

Have you played any scatterwound boutiques? Something tells me if you have not and you bought a pickup that claims to be like the duncan you're currently using youll like the boutique better.

I understand why you wouldn't want to open that can of worms yet but I recommenced you do. the boutique pickups these days are so much better thank the typical stock Duncans etc.. that Id say your doing yourself a disservice considering you are a gearhead.

If you like the JB and Jerry Cantrell tone than I guess the Afwayu would be in that vein as he has switched to them this past year.
