I prefer my og iic+ over the reissue. Taking it further,on the right day tho I actually prefer my mkiii red stripe coli over my og iic+.
I'd agree with all these things. For rhythm tones I'd take any Coli over any 4 tube Mark. (...though the OG C+ is still hard to beat for lead tones.)

I bought a pair of Mk IIIs, a Red and Purple stripe, both DRGs back when you could get them for 600 apiece. After playing them, I wouldn't have paid 300 apiece for either. No harmonics, flat, sterile boring tone. Returned one and sold the other. They had lots of tight gain, but that was the only thing good about them. Ugh.

Later that year I picked up an SRG 2C. Unreal...jagged, raw in your face amp with TONS of rich harmonics. Night/day difference for me vs the 2 IIIs I had. I of course had Mike B turn it into a C+, and it was killer but damn if I shouldn't have kept it as a C. Sold it for 5x what I paid, so that was cool.
I honestly don't get anyone that somehow prefers a Mk III to a C+. Your ears must be shot. Or something. Lol
I'm kidding of course...but If you value a rich, harmonic laden sound then the C+ is on a level that isn't matched by many other amps...if at all.

The exception for a Mk III would be a Coli. They are their own animal, and are all killer no matter which version we talk about.

The MK III's are called as such because as the saying goes, three strikes and you're out

Both are great amps, but damn those Wizards are something else... Scored an MCII 50w and MTL 100w both E34L loaded and would really like to cop a KT88 loaded Hell Razor and/or MTL MKII. Really well built amps, but man they carry a hefty price tag and kick like a MF'r.

I want to put my Mesa mark III++ Pentode converted Coliseum against a Hell razor head to head and see what’s up.

I A/B'd the MTL 100 E34L against a III+ HRG (Red Stripe not that it matters now).

The noise floor on the Wizard was much lower and its build quality was superior.

Both sounded great, but the GEQ of the Mark really makes it more flexible.

Either way someone goes, I'm sure they'd be happy.

My 2B (late model) Coli, that Mike B converted to a C+ (with the beefier 2B power section) was buried by my 72 Tremolo. I ran both with an ABY, figured it would be a great mix but all I could hear of the Coli was the low end rumble.
I'd imagine the Wizard might not bury it as much as the Marshall...since the mids are more HiWatt.
Bring your earplugs! That's a shit ton of wattage between both.

Buddy has two original C+ and the clone. On some lower gain settings maybe close but high gain they do not have the growl and hair the originals do. Not even close.
Fir the price of two clones you can get the real deal.
