When Eddie came out, his chops and technique were pretty impressive for the time and yeah, his feel and sound definitely set him apart. I dont know about the dripping with spontaneity part but theres definitely energy. Im not the biggest fan of the tone but I think the material is strong enough for me to overlook that( nothing lots of volume cant cure ) I also miss MA's high harmonies but overall, I really like it. I dont think that its something that will get regular playing time with me but I got tip my hat to them; This is beyond a pleasant surprise for me.

I think they were messing with us by releasing Tatoo as the first single...

I think they felt it was a "safe" song to release. One they might be a bit more accessible to the masses.

There's a few solos here that are fantastic. I wasn't into the lead stuff at first, but after times they've become something different. The tone is better in some songs than others, but overall it could be better. Like you said, easy enough to look over with good material.

I'm digging it. I just didn't know they had anything like this still left in them. The more I listen, the more I like it. It's refreshing.

I think a lot of people want it to suck so will be pleasantly surprised? All I wanted to do was put my opinion across because I have always been a big fan (even Hagar material after all that's what got me into them in the first place) and I was really pleased that this album has actually happened despite all odds and that, to me, it doesn't suck!

Having heard the whole thing, I think it's quite good and it will be in regular rotation here (still don't like DLR trying to hit high notes and Eddie's tone is not what I had hoped)
It's not pre 1984 great, but it's better than the Sammy era.
I look forward to the next disc if they make another. This was just a warm up.

Here it is, 2012, and I was able to listen to a new album of pretty cool tunes done by Van Halen...a band that I was digging well over 30 years ago. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE???!!! Sure I could nitpick it a bit (guitar tones, squeaky clean production, etc) but why bother...this album kicks a much greater amount of ass than I could have hoped for. It's a fun album and Eddie sounds like he's refueled the tank and is ready to take another climb back to the top of the rock guitar heap. I give it

Me either. To each his own..... but I don't understand how some people can listen to it and say it "sucks", "terrible", "leaves me cold" and then say they are a VH fan. It really has me wondering what in the world it would take for them like it or at least say it's not terrible.

Sorry I know it's all subjective but to say it sucks makes me really question the motives behind their opinion.

I actually like Tattoo now that I've heard it many times. Sure, it's kinda silly, and they say "Tattoo, tattoo" in the verse AND the chorus. But it's not a bad tune. I really liked the full version of Blood and Fire. Great tune. Stay Frosty seems like another odd but great song, She's The Woman - I liked it on the '76 demo, and I like it now.

Is it Ed using his '79 VHII tone? Nope - I can hardly hear the guitar in the mix. But when I hear it on the radio, I turn it up. Rare these days!
