I think they felt it was a "safe" song to release. There's a few solos here that are fantastic. I wasn't into the lead stuff at first, but after times they've become something different. The tone is better in some songs than others, but overall it could be better. Like you said, easy enough to look over with good material.
I'm digging it. I just didn't know they had anything like this still left in them. The more I listen, the more I like it. It's refreshing.
