I could be wrong but I doubt it if you own the home outright and aren't needing to be making payments. Somehow in their gov eyes people in that situation are impervious to financially difficult times.

Nope, read the screenshot

It's literally not in the calculations

Nah @VonBonfire at least from what I can tell

i've searched this every which way I possibly can, in literally depends on your income versus your expenses, not what those expenses are

It's on their webpage, too:

Literally the first line of text lol
It might be different in TX and FL, I just can't recall. Either way, it doesn't really matter to me. I was building raised beds for gardening out back today. I figure if I can set up a dozen of them plus shoot deer I can start knocking down the food bill a little. What I really wanna do is build a smokehouse.

That's an excellent skill to have anyways

And is a great way to supplement your food

Get some cheap freezers and a smokehouse and go to town

AFAIK there are far less restrictions on hunting in texas then there are here; they want you dependent on the state, not yourself lol

I did have a garden area but my mistake was setting it up too far from the house, so I couldn't keep a close enough eye on it and it became choked out with weeds. I grew more peppers than I could stand to eat.

TX deer season, you get five tags for $30 which is a lot of meat (and work). I have taken deer every year. I can shoot all the hogs I want to it's just I usually don't feel motivated in the overnight hours which is when they are most active. It's also a "right to farm" state. I have a deep freezer but the smokehouse would free me up from relying on electricity for meat preserving. I suppose canning would as well, but then the wife has to be on board.

I'm working on refurbishing a few things here. My chicken run got a corner crunched in an ice storm so I wanna re-do it before I get more birds. Sheep for mowing and a couple of goats for brush control is the long term dream tbh.

Wait. You can shoot as many hogs as you want??

Bro holy shit, there's a whole bunch of people in washington who would be absolutely seething with envy at that

And five tags for 30$?! Dude you can get a maximum of one a year in washington and it's almost always around 100 bucks. You can get some kind of exception if the deer are overpopulated for two whole deer but IIRC you literally need to hire a lawyer to get that 2nd tag.

You need to take advantage of all the shit you're allowed to do in real america FFS :hys:

Yeah, they are an invasive species. You can kill them with dogs and a knife if you really want to. I've never cleaned a hog but I've heard it's pretty gross and I tend to believe it (chickens are pretty damn gross too). I did set some hog specific bait up but the damn deer still ate it, lol.

Texas definitely has good hunting laws which have helped keep me here. To make it even better since I'm west of I-35 I don't even have to report my kills. Just shoot-clean-eat. I just need a bigger smoker setup for jerky and curing large pieces of meat. I think a smokehouse is on my short list. I have enough plywood to put it together. Maybe I should just turn the coop into the smokehouse and build a new smaller coop a little closer to the house, I dunno. I need to give it some thought there.

It boggles my mind that there are still places in america that aren't complete shit because I live in a very pretty place that has been turned into complete shit by one party controlling it for half a century

In places with no asset limit it's trivially easy to quality for food stamps (and a shit ton of other govenrment programs) when no rational person would think you deserve them.

That said I don't think most of the ghetto Lambos are using ETFs structured for return-of-capital rather than income or something. They're just not declaring their drug dealing income and committing fraud.

Well Hays co went blue in '16 because they bucked the system and allowed students to vote, which is BS, but Texas should be reliably red for some years to come based on recent redistricting that was approved by the Supreme Court. I've watched the democrat party thirsty to take control of this state for some time.

They were trying to build a data center here where water is very precious, and both republicans and democrats banded together and told them to get F'ed. It was actually pleasing to see some bi-partisanship for a change. My place is in an aquifer recharge zone so they've already shutdown the insane development that was proposed for my neighborhood years ago. Everywhere else is going insane with building. They are just finishing up a Buc-ee's about six or seven miles from my home now.

It's absolutely insane, at least where I live.

You drive through the rich neighborhood? Suburus, and work trucks. Maybe a Tesla sprinkled in here and there.

You drive through the ghetto? Jaguars. Porche Cayennes. Lambo Urus. Everything has rims. It's unbelievable

Louisiana is very similar to Texas. Deer tags for the year are included with your big game hunting license renewal. Number of tags can change year to year due to needs, but it's generally 6 tags. Basic hunting license is $20 plus an extra $15 to include big game. Basically $35 for 6 deer and pretty much all the squirrel and rabbit you want.

There's very few restrictions on wild hogs since they're a nuisance. Public land you can only hunt during the day. Private land is a different story. As long as you have a basic hunting license, are on your own land or have written permission from thelandowner you can hunt them however you want. Any time of year, day or night. Heck, you can even shoot them from a helicopter. You do need an extra permit for aerial hunting, but I don't think it's that hard to get. Probably harder to rent a helicopter & pilot than it is to get the permit.

Dude I can't imagine how cool it is to live in a state that doesn't fucking suck.

No feral hogs in Indiana but I watched the pros hunting them in other states (Arkansas?) on tv and enjoyed that. Smart critters.
Never hunted deer. I think tags are $100 and you only get one deer for that. BUT too many executives and businessmen with more money than brains, buying the gun & gear they need and heading for a tree stand....and trigger happy. Almost every year there's a story of another hunter getting shot at by them.

There are some nice perks. "Sportsman's Paradise", your money can go a longer way with a lower cost of living, pretty good music scene, great food, lots of history, gun laws that's aren't overly restrictive, and a deep red state.

Though it's not all rainbows and unicorns. There are some aspects that undeniably suck. Cancer alley with the oil & gas industry, high violent crime (in some areas), old and failing infrastructure, heat plus humidity, hurricanes, high insurance rates (home & auto), bad traffic & shit drivers, poor education, and fucking mosquitoes. Somehow, Louisiana is on the top of every bad list and the bottom of every good list.

Every area seems to have it's drawbacks though. All things considered, I can't think of any other place I'd want to live. I've managed to nestle out a pretty good life here.

I'd rather be in Louisiana than a whole lot of other states if only for the pork cracklins and mud bugs. Apparently the cajun zydeco stuff has been experiencing a monster global resurgence post covid. If I was leaving the southern US it'd be because I was leaving the US. I once read someone saying they drive on the left in England but in Louisiana they drive on what's left, lol. I plan on being up in MS this fall for a show or two. Should be a good time.

The hogs have invaded Southern Missouri in the past few years and have been spotted near my cabin (which is South of me). They are absolutely not indigenous. They are very destructive and you can't eat them. Not sure I'd even use 'em for hog feed.

I'm all for helping people that truly need help, but there needs to be more restrictions on the freebies. There are millions of people in this country who do nothing but suck up tax payer dollars and add zero value at the same time.
