Scumback Speakers Gear Sale April 2016

The "tip" was anonymous. The LA County guarantees the caller's anonymity. You can't sue to get the info as they have laws against it, kind of like 911. It's not a crime in LA to report something you think is illegal. Obviously something more was said by this "tipster" for armed police to show up. And yes, I already contacted a real estate attorney about what I could do to save the demo room, but no go. Due to the layout of the garage on the lot, it's too close to the property line setbacks to keep a "rumpus room" or "studio" without cutting the garage back 5 more feet and losing the 1 car portion of the garage.

And getting a variance on the lot is roughly $8-10k worth of hearings, inspections, forms, paperwork, plot plans and drawings, plus demolition and reconstruction.

I'm just going to lose the soundproof room, period, along with it's secure storage. Of course I'll be able to do something to deaden the volume but there's nothing like 2 feet of wall, R30 insulation, four layers of drywall (overlapping) with Green Glue soundproofing in between each drywall layer.

Trust me, I went to LA County Planning, & Building and Safety four times late last year to try to figure a way out, and there just isn't one.

And facing a $733 fine per day till it's corrected isn't an option, I don't have that money to thumb my nose at the County.

I appreciate the concern, and suggestions, though, really. I just wish there was something I (or those that posted here) hadn't thought of already.

Sorry to hear about all this crap Jim. I'm interested in the list I will pm my email.

What a complete and utter asshole that caller was. I'd be tempted to find a way to f with him somehow...get his ass in a sling. Even beyond getting him fired.

Anyway, sorry and good luck Jim!

Positive vibes & best wishes sent for a seamless and hassle free (as possible) return to normal.

Thanks very much for all the positive thoughts. Our property looks like a recycling war zone right now...metal roofing piles 3 feet tall and 10 feet long, 4x4 and 4x6 posts, gutters, 6" wood posts, you name it.

Contractors will be back tomorrow and they take out the 30 x 15 foot storage shed behind the garage, then the 2 foot thick wall in front of the 2 car garage door, then the cleanup afterwards. We have a deadline of May 1st, so it'll get done, it just won't be pretty until then.

I have to go vacuum the shop/demo room, and put vinyl tarps on all of the amps/cabs. Then it's back to finishing up the list of gear. A lot of work, to say the least. I don't wish this on anyone.

Here’s the list of gear I’m going to sell...it’s all over the map. Look it over, make an offer, but please realize that lowball offers won’t be responded to. Obviously some of these items are pricey. All are in good to excellent working condition, serviced, setup and speakers have been tested.

Email only please, I hate the PM box/window! So please email me at: sales@scumbackspeakers.com

What an ordeal. The LA County finally inspected and passed all of our corrections to the property, and I can finally uncover all of the gear I'm going to sell, take pics and put prices up.

Five weeks of demolition and construction. Yikes. And it's not quite over yet.

When I get back from the gym, I'll make sure the camera battery is charged, and start taking pics.

I hope none of you ever have to go through this kind of BS, it will drain you.

Friday May 13th update...

While the inspections are over, I'm now back to building speakers and shipping out the stuff that already sold. So hopefully later today (if I'm lucky around more contractor estimates...argh!) I can dust off the blankets/plastic and take pics of the gear.

Of course, that got delayed yesterday when Vonage decided to cancel both of my phone #'s by mistake instead of one.

Six hours of tech support to Vonage on my cell...finally got a supervisor to go through the whole thing this morning from 7 am thru 10 am, and 9-12 noon yesterday.

When it rains, it pours...and then a ton of speaker orders came in.

Due to LA County Zoning Dept delays and a death in the family, I'm finally back to listing the demo gear. Here's
a pile of speakers I uncovered, tested, and have ready to go.
