Here is something a friend made for me. I’m using a bone stock 1967 Marshall plexi. Zero mods. I won’t divulge anything about it, but as you can hear, it makes a stock non-master Marshall into a beast... a JCM800 is a fire breather. Of course it does everything else inbetween too. I plan on deleting this video in a little while.

So that was just the Screamer. The Timmey wasn’t on?

Yeah, only the screamer was on. You can see at the end of the video, I turn the Cusack off and you. An see the Timmy’s LED is off. I switch back and forth between the two pedals for tonal changes though.

The Hotmod is different from the Quickmod in the type of tube used. The reason Soldano stopped making these is the original pre tube used aren't made anymore, so when it comes time to replace the tube good luck finding one.
I had the Kasha and it's a nice alternative to the Soldano. The Kasha uses a 12ax7 so no worries replacing the tube.
With a quick internet search I found many 6k11 tubes (used in the Hot Mod) for sale.
Are they still making them? Or are they vintage? If they are out there I'd stock up. Soldano himself said that was the reason they stopped making the Hotmod. If they are plentiful enough then I don't see why Mike wouldn't try to make some more, they would sell like crazy.

Yup, all used. Seems there are still a few of these tubes floating around out there. I also read that the Hot Mod was discontinued due to the tubes being discontinued as well as a possible patent issue.

*UPDATE*

So I’ve had this for a few weeks now and I can definitively say that I’m impressed. It breaths tons of gain into the amp and is completely and instantly reversible making it one of the best mods I’ve played in an old Marshall. I completely understand why some who have tried it felt it wasn’t that great. The mod on its own leaves a flubby and fizzy low end that cannot be dialed out with the amp’s controls. However, this is cured by using an overdrive in front; not to add gain or push the front of the amp, but to simply tighten the low end. I tried various tube screamers and an SD-1. All provided what was needed by simply setting the pedal “level” to about 9-10:00. So the Hot Mod along with an OD makes the amp sing. This combination yields a significantly fuller and beefier tone with much more sustain than using an OD pedal alone without the Hot Mod.
I can’t believe this solution isn’t more readily available by Soldano or other companies.

It is available from Kasha as the quick mod, and that one gives you 2 adjustable gain stages I believe. They also have a product that will add a loop to a vintage amp by using the PI tube slot.
