Some guy tore into me on Youtube...

Isn't there a guy called Reza who experienced a bunch of this stuff? Pretty sure none of it came from the nice people here though. I can see from this thread that everyone here is very kind.

"Hate speech" about describing TONE? like from amps and guitars?!

No joke.. I’m sure @Mike Oxhuge will confirm, the dude joined a small forum where he contributed nothing but posting his shitty vids of amps that builders like to send to first, which is a mystery to me and a different story. He posted a SLO vid, which he was selling, and I said it sounded a bit boxy. He quit the forum, made the admins erase all his posts, and a day later he made a vid about hate on the internet. Can’t make it up

Generally speaking, "boxy" is because of the speakers, mic, and mic placement far moreso than the amp itself

So that's kind of an odd thing to have a shitfit about

Yeah that shit was crazy! I cannot believe the narcissm in some individuals. We all have slightly different ears for tone and opinions and feedback are a good thing. Posting clips and getting criticism has helped me grow at recording and dialing amps. In fact recording clips usually helps me pinpoint what I have dialed in wrong and then the amp sounds even better in the room.

Im super experienced mixing and micing and I still love the criticism and feedback I do get - it's like a free map to discovering new techniques or working out a type of tone I haven't done before.

It's part of why I'm such an asshole about asking people to post clips on RT - what someone says doesn't have any grounding when their opinions aren't contextualized by their skill level or experience level with this shit.

But that's the great part, if you're new to this world, you have unlimited potential, and the criticism is your roadmap to mastery

I am probably much better at getting good recorded tone than I am at playing. I just don't get much time to work on my chops anymore. But it is all still fun and I'm like a kid when I have a good guitar plugged into a good amp.

I'm super experienced at both, but that comes at a very real cost - I can't afford expensive gear because i've spent a lifetime being a musician and engineer :hys:

Sometimes the grass looks greener spending time as a "civilian" and being able to afford nice shit

online trolls are ubiquitous. most have no valid criticism just hate, anger and vitriol. IIRC, Bonamassa stopped posting on forums because the trolls were exhausting.

it's also why many social media channels don't bother reading the comments.

I don’t even hate the haters, if it makes them feel good and brings joy to their otherwise miserable life by bashing me, I just ask they go all out and say something like “I’d rather die in a fire than hear that bullshit again”, or something we can both get a chuckle out of

Man that's good to know, I might pick your brain at some point, that is if you don't mind.

The sounds I'm getting with vocals are my lowest common denominator right now. Nothing I record is approaching studio quality, but vocals have been particularly difficult to get "closer to decent" for me.

Part of the problem is I need some room treatment, but still pretty clueless with compression and eq for voice.

Vocals are a very sticky thing, because it varies wildly from vocalist to vocalist, and also according to the style of singing AND the style of music (which are very separate things)

You're always welcome to pick my brain with any specific problems or issues you're having though, and I'll do my best to help

Generally speaking, as long as the room is as dead as possible and you are using the right mic for the style of vocals, it really comes down to input gain staging, time based fx, and most importantly the right types of compression though

Then after rage quitting, they make videos denouncing “hate speech” on the internet. Just wild lol
That's them being completely irrational. Lots of these guys, unless they get 100%, A+++ glowing commentary, like to throw around the "hate speech" tag to console their wounds. Wounds brought on by hypersensitivity and the silent realization that the critics may be right. Personally, I find it very difficult to "hate" something that, if measured by my own emotional/personal/philosophical attachment to it, falls somewhere in between utter indifference and tepid curiosity.

Are you guys talking about Kyle Bullshit

Not the story I told, but Kyle seemed to not like what myself and others had to say about the tone of his mezzabarba review as if we were dissing him personally or something, which seemed to lead to his exit of this place :dunno: i like Kyle, hes an old hardcore kid like me, i like his band and his channel, seemed like a strange thing to get so bent out of shape over if that actually was the case

I used to like the guy myself back in the day - but his thin-skinned crybaby stuff don't work.
