I really like the Splawn, but it won't do classic lower gain stuff like the Friedman. The BE has far more dynamics when rolling the guitar volume off. The Splawn does better high gain tones a la AIC, Tool, etc. But it won't touch the Friedman for ACDC "Back In Black", Dec Leopard "High and Dry", or The Darkness tones. Both will cover 80s through modern rock though. The Splawn is currently bon consignment at my buddy's shop. But it wouldn't break my heart if it doesn't sell. For the money, it's as good as it gets in a rock amp.
I'd take both of those amps over my old Bogner XTC Classic and Shiva, as well as my 2203X for 80/90s rock.
