Maybe I missed it, but what speakers did you have in it?
Not Sure waht speaker were in the cab Vlad. We didn't have the proper tool in order to open up the back of the cab but whatever was in their sounded killer !!

If they're the stock SB25's they freaking RULE!
But I only like them with my QR. They're too nasty with my other amps.
Scott more then likely had them tweaked for his amps which makes sense. The good thing is that whatever was loaded in Carls Cab sounded killer with the Fortin Bones and I'm sure it would sound good with just about anything. The cab is very warm sounding

Yeah the SB25's are clearly tweaked to Splawns. I knew that going in. If they worked with the other amps, then it would be a bonus.

Yeah it's very clear and warm.

They are ok cabs imo. I really want a Bogner 4x12 now that I played Se7en's 20th ann through a Bogner 4x12.
From my experiance there's always going to be something else that you dig more! With that said I do think that it is possible to get a beat sounding cab regardless of who builds it! I have one 80's marshall cab that sound insane no matter what I put in it and another that sounds like hammered shit no matter what I put in it LMAO. Ive also swapped out the same speakers from one cab to the next and compared them and the cab just sounds like Dog ass LMAO :)

They are good cabs at their price point that's for sure.

Never tried his small block/big block or other Eminence speakers though.

I got it unloaded and know you don't like mixing speakers   but I have a cross pattern of H30/Greenbacks in it and sounds quite authentic with my 2203x.

Oh!

Ralph said star shaped :gethim: I used 1000's of those for my deck, SS so they were freaking expensive

I stay away from those religous flamefests anyways :D

Yeah, It looked like star shaped but it was dark...Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it LMAO!! Most definitely Square...My Bad :D

And as far as Scott Splawn and his beliefs.....people always have something to say and there really isn't anything you can do. The guy is proud of his faith and chooses to acknowledge it. Good for him

They're still called Robertson square drive bits that I use for my drill :poke: ;)

Allow me to make a bad pun: Screw that.

This is much easier, and way faster...

Unless you don't have a drill, of course. But what man doesn't? :D

I don't have to repeat what has already been said here but Splawn cabs do rock!! I don't own one but did try Curt's at his shop when i demoed it with the QR. The construction is fantastic and the SB25's sound soooooo good with the QR. I can imagine that it would sound good with other amps too. Doubleneck has a cab over in the classifieds for sale. If I had the cash I would snatch it up.

I love my 2x12. I did put casters on it last week cuz it is a heavy son of a bitch to lug around.

I'm planning on buying another this fall, and give them another shot, as the cab I had sounded horrible. It didn't have the stock speakers, but I put an old set of Blackbacks in it. I thought the speakers were bad, because it was so dark and muffled. So, I pulled the speakers out of one of my other cabs, and put them in it. Same thing. When I put the speakers back in the Marshall and Bogner cabs I'd taken them out of, they sounded fantastic again, so I sold the cab. I figure I got one of the bad ones that everyone puts out on occasion, after all, who can judge the tonal qualities of wood by sight? Anyway, I'm wanting to get another, and see how it sounds with my QR.

Then go for the Cornford!! great sounding cab!

I think i will keep an eye on eBay UK and see if i can score a Cornford 4x12, to save myself some £££

Robertsons?

Never heard of those, why does Scott use those?

Tamper-proof to hide the secrets? :D

They are square drive screws.

so they dont strip out like a phillips does with continued use

Wrong tool = anything will strip. I do see the reasoning though, cool idea.

have always loved splawn cabinets - been craving 4 of them for a long long time. two with small blocks, one with big blocks, and another to do 55hz celestions.

built like a brick shit house and are not $1,000 a piece like all of the bogner cabinet hype

the SB 25's sound phenomenal. someone mentioned ice picky? i have gotten that through a splawn amplifier but not any of his splawn cabinets. has alot to do with the speakers loaded and the amplifier you're playing IMHO.

i know where some of the cabinets are made. i cant tell you because the guy lives in NC and makes cabinets for very big name companies and as one offs for big artists, but he is well known in the area for his tolex jobs and making headshells custom to your needs and helping out on large orders. theres another member on the forum that knows that lives in NC but im sure he wont say.

i will say that splawn makes the majority of his own cabinets right in his own shop and the quality is excellent

I have a govenor/man o war pattern in my Splawn cab and it sounds great. Still wanting to try some sb25's though

great to see some Splawn love around here. It's about time

and those square screw heads are called 'robertson's' ;)

Well I think Scott deserves Love because I think he is a Really good guy who makes great products. I know I haven't been much of a fan of his amps and that's all personal preferance With that said, Id love to revisit the Quickrod and pair it with a matching cab.

Robertsons huh? Thanks!! I guess Carl will need a Robertson screw head lol :)

I tried the Nitro at that LI ampfest at Greg's. I liked the Nitro, cool amp, and it was on different cabs and sounded good on them all. We did boost it with a Maxon pedal, but it was loud. The loop volume works good as i tried a Splawn Street Rod combo and you can get the volume down as low as you want. But i didn't like the Street Rod combo and sold it, the guy i sold it to is selling it as well. The tone was nasty, in a bad way, and it was loaded with the SB speaker which didn't sound warm at all to me. And the mids sounded like they were stuck on 20 without the ability to lower it.

True, I used a high powered drill to remove the screws on mine and it chewed up some of them even though I used the correct bit, lol.

there's no cab on the market i'd take over my splawn cabs. no idea what it is about them but every head i've run through them sounds better than it has through any other cab i tried. i have one loaded with old broken in V30s and the other a set of hellatone broken in V30s so there's not oddball, rare, boutique BS speaker or X pattern mix going on just the good old go to standard for guitar speakers. i guess scott just got the construction, dimensions and grill cloth all right.

i'd really love to load another one with some EVM12Ls for use with my JMP instead of the original 70s marshall cab i use with it now....one day when the money tree starts to bloom again

I finally got to spend some more time with the Splawn cab, at higher volumes. I was A/B/C-ing the Veteran 30's and ET-65's, separately and combined, and it definitely has more spank with everything else being the same as before, vs. the Avatar cab. It didn't take nearly as much gain to get a really good grind, and it handles bass a lot better. I am definitely sold on doing a quad of ET-65's in it, though. The Veteran 30's alone and mixed are a little more brutal than I go for, but the differences between the Splawn and Avatar boxes is very much noticeable. Needless to say, I am quite happy with my purchase.

The Avatar is still a really good cab, though. With the Chadwick and the Hellatone 30's and 60's wired in parallel, it's a nice and warm rig in itself. Not as aggressive as the Knucklehed + Splawn, but I think it will either work great as a clean rig (the Krank clean is really sweet) or as a wet portion of a wet/dry rig. I should have my second pair of ET-65's in a few days, along with a metric ton of bulk cable and connectors to wire up my new pedalboard and snake.
