Straight 4x12 vs Slant 4x12

Never once had a problem hearing myself well with straight cabs.
Did you play out with straight cabs? Or at home? If I can be far enough away from the cab a straight can work. But smaller clubs, I was usually just a few feet away.

I have both and played both for quite some time and straight cabs are my preference for most of the reasons already listed in this thread by others.

Isn't there the quasi-slanted 4x12? My old Diezel is like that. Construction-wise, it's straight with the grill slightly slanted.

I’ve ONLY played out with straight cabs!
The only exception to the 'directional' thing about straight cabs is a recently purchased 68 Marshall straight. It was empty, stripped/painted but has OG grill(I reversed it, other side is perfect if a little darkened), handles, cups input jack etc. Loaded it with a quad of 68/69 GBs and that thing projects all over the room vs the 2 80s/90s B cabs I have that don't. If I played out still(might be this next yr lol) I'd feel good bringing it out.

Marshall B cabs do have that slant. Most are still too directional for me live at a gig.

I’ve been lucky in that most of the straights I owned over the years have been quite room filling (Wizard, HiWatt, Bogner and especially Mills). Even the 81 JCM 800 cab I got recently. But yeah, many Marshall straights can be very directional and beamy

Straight/Slants. Best of both worlds. :-) Or just stack two straights on top of eachother.

I'm a straight cab guy all the way. I've been fortunate enough to A/B Straight vs Slant Marshall 1960, Marshal MF, Mesa OS, ENGL, Orange and others I can't remember and every single time I choose the Straight. They not only have so much more low end, it's much tighter low end. I keep picking up slant cabs, but I'd love to just sell them all and have wall to wall straight cabs.

I've always prefered straight cabs. When I used to play gigs I always played so loud that I never had a problem hearing myself. Also, the cab I used the most has a slightly slanted front baffle. That helps a bit.
