Sweetwater Modded Marshall DSL 100

2005 & after 2K DSL's they fixed the boards. Look for those years.
If you look up user reviews on the newest DSL amps on GC there’s a lot of reports of the amps dying in a month or two, sometimes multiple amps with the same owner after they exchange them.

What they don’t get is that tonal modifications are best captured in video/audio and not text.
Maybe they learned from mesa. Remember that terrible clip they had of the Mesa markiic reissue?

There's also the Marshall DSL40CR mod shop one; revoiced Classic Gain channel's Clean voice — the Green LED — increasing its gain, giving rise to 1959 Super Lead tones, while leaving the stock Crunch voice. Next, modifications to both of the Ultra Gain channel's voices, taking inspiration from Marshall's iconic JCM amplifiers and a Celestion G12M-65 Creamback speaker.

Please share these settings...

“Because the high end is at 2, midrange is at 2, the bass is at like four or six, and the distortion is like at about 12 o’clock, and I don’t use Rat pedal for distortion. But when I turn it up, it sounds right. It’s warmer, it’s browner, and it suits me and I can play more progressively when most people would turn up a lot of the high-end and things like that.“

“Trust us, everyone here at Sweetwater who has heard these mods loves how it does that…well…kinda like..oh, you know the thing..!”

Yeah that’s a valid point. The questions I know I’d be asking though would be what is Sweetwater’s return policy on modified gear? Do they take the professional stance and say return policies are extended? Or the shady stance and say return policies are removed or differ from normal new gear? Is a restocking fee applied to modified gear and if so does it differ from normal gear?

Claiming something is modified for more money from a big box store is more salesman tactic for hype than actual care IMO. If they cared they’d have it well characterized and talk more about the professional stance. The fact they do neither seems concerning to me and shady.

I hear the 100HR heads are solid though?

Not sure about the better parts... different graphics and limited edition. If anyone knows if they were the same internally or were upgraded somehow, I'd be curious to hear more.
I also heard that the DSL 2000 50 watt was Jim's favorite amp and why they did the 1923.. wonder if that is true?

Just buy a $500 DSL100HR on CL and do an OT and choke upgrade on. I've done that twice and even eBay off the original OT for about what the new parts cost me. Those amps were so awesome, kind of miss them. At the time I was playing in a band that loved to practice at full tilt. We all wore earplugs and just shook the house on its foundation. Man, that was fun.

I've heard that, too. Not a clue if there's any truth to it. I've never played a 50w JCM2000 DSL. The 100w just smokes.

Yeah this is baffling, but weirdly common.

Decently-captured audio is such an obvious choice for marketing any audio related product, yet so many manufacturers don’t bother.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been looking into an amp, then lost interest because of this omission.

I at least have audio and video captures over raw text. Decent audio is hard because I don’t have a treated studio, the specialized hardware, nor the time to fix what would be recorded from reflections and other issues. Plus I’ve consulted an actual professional that I don’t have that mics to capture what I’m particularly selling.

Instead my plan is to build another amp to ship around for professionals to capture on their own.

Seems if'in i was to be sellin mApZ id at least have some audio / video of it to get the GAS cultivating.
Its not like Marshall & SW would be 35 yrs out of touch with their base or anything.

It is a good point. But "mods" have always been overrated. Most people don't know what the fuck they even want or how to use their amp. Usually a $100 eq pedal will fix it all.

Depends on the amp, the mods & who's doing them.
A Vietnam combo is what it is. SW is a marketing firm not an amplifier company.

I am very interested in getting one, so I called Sweetwater and was told the 2 year warranty does apply to this amp. I have decided to await the YouTube clips from the expected guys we all know and love.

Sound clips of the 40. Dude says they modded tho gain channel to sound like a 900. Lol

He mentions the words "mod" 11 times the first 29 seconds lol. I had seen that before but forgot all about it.
The Marshall sounds cool but IDK anyone that plays with a trem amp the last 35 yrs.
Whole thing is kinda cool but nothing id buy retail.
