The whole music industry has changed for the worse. Everything now is electronic garbage. No one needs talent anymore. All these “singers” and “rappers” are so edited that in live settings they sound nothing like their album. For me that was always the sign of a talented band. How close they sounded live to the studio magic of their albums. None of these new “artists” deserve awards. Give the awards to the producers and studio staff that made them famous.

well, dr dre and kendrick lamar are the producers and have their own huge studios, and most of the bigger name rappers have their own bands. i believe this is the band from last night

I agree they may be talented and I wasn’t exactly commenting on that performance last night. It was mildly entertaining even though I couldn’t hear any guitar in it what so ever. I’m no denying talent still exists im more commenting on that fact that the industry as a whole doesn’t really promote talent anymore. They package whatever is easiest to cram down kids/teens/young adults throats and run off with the cash to the next “big thing”.

For me, it’s nothing to do with age, my music has never been pop music. SB halftime shows have always been shit show pop music since they started using bands and making it a thing.

Because I was bored, looking back historically, here’s the SB performers. Looks like they used marching bands and local artists until 1990.
There are a couple on this list that I would listen to, but 90% would never reach a speaker in my house anyway. So nothing has really changed, Dokken, Amorphis, Steve Vai, Opeth, etc… was never going to be featured in 1991 or any year. It’s nothing to do with the death of guitar itself, which is as popular as it’s ever been.

1991 - New Kids On The Block
1992 - Gloria Estefan
1993- Michael Jackson
1994 - Clint Black, The Judds, 2 more country singers
1995- Miami Sound machine and host of singers
1996- Diana Ross
1997- Blues Brothers, James Brown, ZZ Top
1998- Boys 2Men, Host of soul singers and rappers
1999- Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder
2000- Phil Coins, Christina Agulara, Toni Braxton
2001- NSYNC, Aerosmith
2002- U2
2003- Shania Twain, No Doubt
2004- Janet Jackson, Pdiddy, Kid Rock, Justin Timberlake
2005- Paul McCartney
2006- Rolling Stones
2007- Prince
2008- Tom Petty
2009- Bruce Springsteen
2010- The Who
2011- Black Eyed Peas
2012- Madonna
2013- Beyonce
2014- Bruno Mars
2015- Katy Perry
2016- Coldplay
2017- Lady Gaga
2018- Justin Timberlake
2019- Maroon 5
2020- Shakira, Jennifer Lopez
2021- The Weekend
2022- Dre, Snoop Dog, etc…

Most of that music you heard in the game came out in the early 90s.
I’m familiar with it all. I grew up with it but I was more commenting on the state of music these days. That performance was ok but I couldn’t hear any guitar at all.

For a super bowl half time show it was very good. Just not expecting much from one these days. At least I didn’t have to advert the kids eyes like I did a few years back when j lo was shakin her thang.
