Lots of good opinions. For the record, I thought of either just sticking with the Mark III or getting something simple (5150 price range) and getting a nice guitar (possibly Tom Anderson or super strat style).

BTW D-Rock, can't see your avatar.
Try some pedals with the Mk III or get the 5150

Already have a good little set of pedals, and sold my 5150 a few months ago.

Ibenhad: I'd be buying the uber or 5153 new. At least for Bogner I get a damn good deal so for under $2k I could get one new and possibly a custom grill or tolex.

We have a 50 watt 5153 at work and while it sounds good it's got the bad characteristic of the 6505+ that made me sell it, plus it was almost too saturated to where I couldn't dial it down, was a bit fizzy sounding. Used it with a matching 2x12 with volume at about 2. The bad characteristic was a squeaky sound from the pick attack, never had the problem from any other amp but I hear it in almost every 5150/6505 clip I hear. The 5150/6505 rhythm channel doesn't have the problem, 5150II/6505+ the rhythm channel just wasn't to my liking. The 5153 clean channel was nice, rhythm was nice, but the lead was almost too much. It's not out of the question yet but so far haven't really liked it.

The uber I played was through a partial open back soldano 2x12 with eminence legends, so pretty far from a mesa oversized 4x12 or uberkab. It's possible the cab had a lot to do with why I liked it, it sounds great with every amp.

Id go with the Uber. I loved mine but had so many amps I sold all but the Mk III and 20th x. Im more of a classic rock blues guy and only played man in the box on the uber

Hows it sound with it? That album is kind of an inspiration but still different.

By the way, anyone with an opinion of Splawns, as far as comparing to these?

Dammit! It comes and goes, like a ghost. Refreshing the page usually shows it.
Anyways, either of these will fit the bill.

I had the settings from Jerrys uber so pretty damn close considering I was playing it   Very articulate amp.

Dude, I'm in love with this clip of the XTC Classic. I don't know if they make this amp anymore, and it was boosted like a mofo to get to this level, but guys have told me the 20 Ann Ecstasy will get this tone. Just brutal with great sounding overtones here; skip to 1:25-1:30.

I remembered that from last year, just couldn't remember who it was! Whoever, he got some sick tone out of that amp, man.

Then he RULES! I played that vid for like three days straight when researching the 20 Ann XTC...couldn't get enough of that tone.

Sorry Joel, done sidetracking your thread, brother. :D

Always enjoyed that Vid. When I watch his Kemper vids you can really hear a biiiiig difference between the real amp and the profiler.

OP, I LOVE the 20th shiva and XTC but I dont think you'll be happy with it given your penchant to play some heavy stuff on your own, sans band, time. Id say über is the one for you  Have fun in the search.

Can't play the video right now but is that the video of the guy playing we die young on the XTC? If so it's awesome.

RSRD: Thanks for the opinion, that's what I've been thinking. I hear Jerry Cantrell, A7X, Joe Banamassa, and other guys use the Uber at low to high gain and Trivium (crusade) and youtube guys doing ultra high gain and it sounds amazing for all of it. But the XTC I hear do low to mid gain and sound amazing as well, but really start lacking at very high gain.
But since I haven't played them my thought could be way off.

Get the Uberschall,................

Uber or my favorite for these type sounds~Tremoverb. I can say from my experience the Tremoverb & Mark III make a great A/B rig.

Here's another vote for Rivera.... I have a Knucklehead KR-100 (three channel, full midi w/reverb)...

Here's a clip, no post, SM57 on channel two with amp's built in boost on.

https://soundcloud.com/jdwhitmanstudiow ... kr100-clip

Pardon the poor mic'ing job, it's a little dark in the clip. All that said, I love my amp, channel three adds mids and some treble for a more traditional high gain tone that's a little more Hi-Fi if that's what you're after. I just love the big gutteral thump of channel two for my modern rock goodness

Also, would love to be able to take credit for that video, but that ain't me... I DO know who it is, though, and we both sort of orbit the same sounds... We've both had much of the same gear through the years.

:rawk:

I will back up the Rivera, my K-Tre' is a great amp. You can get a nice used piece at very good prices.
