Not knocking him, I just don’t hear anything that hasn’t been done before a bunch of times.
There are certainly players who had a much better melodic sense and could still rip your face off with a fast run when they thought it fit well. Dimeola immediately comes to mind..
And he is very much old school, but at heart probably considered a jazz fusion player. Blended genres half a century ago. Broke all the rules. Did stuff 40-50 years ago that is still standing on its own.
