Why can’t we see his pants?

“Your call is important to us. Please stay on the line as we are experiencing higher than normal call volumes”.

Then I would hear exactly this.

When I heard that part, and I’m not kidding, the exact emotion it evoked from me was “I hate life, I am totally bored with it, existence is dull and listless, not even the simple pleasures are worth experiencing anymore, might as well kill myself.”

Note that I specifically did not think “I want to kill myself“ because that would imply I was actually stirred into some sort of assertive action as opposed to the music inspiring me to do nothing more than just sit there, slumped over, secreting depressed thoughts out of my head.

There is no shame in not being able to do shreddy magic tricks on the guitar. However, to then turn around and say well I can’t do it so it’s worthless and empty by default… that is more egotistical and less inspiring than any shredding could ever be.

That's the crazy part - you don't HAVE to shred to make music worth listening to

Even musical genres that I hate (maybe especially those)

It's more about being able to execute an artistic vision that has merit that other people can see. And you only need as much technical skill as you need :dunno:

Unfortunately guitar is turning into one of those hobbies where people are really, really lacking in the whole "has an artistic vision" part, let alone the "has merit" part

I'm just really tired of hearing the disingenuous, beaten-to-death boomer narcissist argument "I can't play fast so all fast playing must be bad, music can only be good if I am able to play it, and if I am able to play it, it's good, because I'm good, but I can't say it's technically good because not even I can delude myself into believing that so I'll just say it's emotionally good and then say that subjective kind of 'emotion' is what all music should be measured against." It's just exhausting, and it hand-waves away a ton of brilliant music for no other reason than jealous, grumbling, pathetic narcissism.

Totally agree that you only need as much technicality as the music demands, and that most great music doesn't need that much technicality. I'll even be the first to say that I think probably most shred-based music is kind of unlistenable, and that there are only a handful of guys out there who can make hyper technical stuff that is genuinely worth listening to at all, and even their own catalogs can be hit and miss at times. But to just write all of it off categorically out of what is clearly jealously is just sad.

Edit: To be totally fair to the guy in the video, he does seem to be having fun with what he's doing, and you can't fault that. Any music made having a good time is worth making. Glad he's having a good time playing. And I'll go even farther than that and say the stuff he is playing is executed well. Seems like he's playing with intent, not hitting any bum notes, the notes he does play are clear, his note choice for the music is good, bends are good, etc.

But it's easy to corrupt an opinion when the first impression you come out swinging with is "only what I do is worth doing, all you losers who like other stuff can suck my dick, time to take a lesson from ME and listen to THIS you bunch of tasteless mutants, a hyeh hyeh."

This is because he's doing the single easiest thing it's possible to do on planet earth, on the guitar :hys:

The real problem is that people say "heh I don't NEED to shred"

And they don't even have the "Artistic vision" or "artistic value" on their radar, which is even more important than the technical skill

They are putting TWO fucking carts before the horse
