TSL vs DSL

I have a TSL100 and my singer has a DSL50... IMO I wish I bought a DSL50/100 because I only use 1 channel on my TSL and I hate the TSL FX loop how it is wired. It's not serial and not very transparent.

However, I would discredit the "reliability issues" with TSL100's.. I bought mine new in 2006 and have had ZERO issues with it (knock on wood). I know the earlier models of JCM2000's in general had issues with "drift current" or something but mine has not shown signs of any issues.

One reliability issue is the footswitch though, it is a horrible design. I never use the footswitch so I never had mine fail. There are ways to construct you're own footswitch that is more reliable than the stock one for less than $20 if you research over on the marshallamp forums..

As far as tone, I know the TSL100 isn't liked here much. But I have had multiple people comment on how good my tone was live with the TSL100, so whatever. It may not be the best sounding amp, but it sounds good to me for what it is. If I was to do it over again, I wish I bought a DSL50. The TSL100 has has been a great workhorse for me for the past 6 years and I play out about once a week. Once I put aftermarket tubes in it and rebiased the amp, it sounded better than new. So, the TSL100 has worked well with my live setup atleast, maybe it's just my playing style and pickups/guitars/effects, etc that it plays nice with..

BTW I use CH2 100% of the time FWIW

Hope that helps

Either amp sounds much better than the forum naysayers will lead you to believe- if played loud. If quiet/medium, bee buzz city...eventually it will be in the repair shop. The transformer is crap in both. Personal experiences and well documented on the google

Thank you all for the feedback!!! I have both a DSL50 and a TSL122. I usually send an amp to the repair shop when purchased used to get it gone over and biased. i ask because the 122 has/had a pronounced hum when played low that isn't as noticeable turned up. Would've been nice had Marshall offered the DSL50/100 in a 2x12" combo. (and i aint talking bout the 85th anniversary overpriced model either! lol)

Hey guys (& gals), What are some recurring issues with the TSL head/combos?
I had heard of overheating issue's with the TSL combo's, I have a buddy who has one and he has a fan on his, its worked for a few years that way after initially having the problem. He's had bad luck with the footswitch also, but got it ironed out
