Never Thought I'd Turn Into A Tan Pants Marshall Guy...

Ah yes, the sound of pedal.

Marshall players really are amusingly delusional. It's a great sounding amp! You just have to add this diode clipping box that ends up being 90% of the sound! Oh, and add FX in post. And of course have your mods sorted, and from the most popular modders, because it's like 10th grade and no one wants to have an unpopular mod :D
Says the guy with 20 spaces full of rack shit in his sig to get tone.
But Marshall guys are “delusional” for using a TS (no diodes) as a clean boost…:hys:

It's fun watching Marshall dupes. They're so cute and sensitive when they get worked up :p

Now go buy another pedal, get another mod, and maybe this time the amp will sound good. You know there's a chance it could work!

I would agree with this. Back when I used a TS into a plexi with the strat there was no real tonal alteration, even with the gain cranked on the pedal. That amp was clean until you hit 120dB then there was a small amount of breakup, lol. 6550's.....

You would probably get some nice distortion earlier if you'd switched to EL-34's but even more if you were using a humbucker - especially a high output one into that amp. It's still not heavy distortion, but something....lots of 70's hard rock is essentially a SD equipped Gibson into a Marshall.

There's a huge caveat there that there's also massive changes in the amount of innate distortion you get in classic 1959's year-to-year and even amplifier-to-amplifier.

No doubt but it's a long story on the 6550's lets just say I wasn't paying any of the yocal techs in my A.O at the time to take it back to stock. And it was reliable as a hammer. It sounded really sweet with an ES loaded with a 498t in the bridge and a greenback cab, even with the 6550's. Great bite. Pretty aggressive tone. Just using a TS style pedal.
