Somewhat simple question here for the most part. I plan on using two 4x12's for some of the larger shows my band might play. Basically have one 4x12 on each side of the stage since I am the only guitar player It would be nice to fill out the sound a bit that way.

If you had your choice of either running two of the exact same cabinets/speakers or running two cabinets with different speakers in them. Which would you chose. Obviously the DB level of the speakers would have to be close so one cab doesnt drown out the other. But in a perfect situation where the db levels are the same do you think having that difference of eq curve on one side compared to the other would widen the tone or would it be better to have the same exact cab and speakers on both sides.

Obviously would probably sound cool either way and both would work just fine . Im just wondering if anyone has tried both options and what the results were. Thanks !

Not micing thru a PA? It'll sound great with two cabs but I would stick with he same speakers.

2 cabs , side by side on your side horizontal right behind you, is probably the best feeling ever. Fucking do that!
This is definitely the way to go. The sound is huge.

Agreed!

Having them on either sides of the stage can be a pain with how you hear things on a stage as you move around since the sound from each cab will be hitting your ear at different times. I tried that a few times and abandoned it after a couple of shows. I can imagine with different speakers it would be even worse.

Unless your stage volume is good, right up front usually sounds like shit even if you're miced up and going through the PA.
And I'd stay with one type of speaker too.

That's the way I always do it.

Wow thanks for the suggestions so far from everyone. Im actually surprised that most of you are saying two cabs on my side of the stage. I would have thought splitting the cabs up would be better.

So one side of the stage would be my bass players rig and the other side would be my two 4x12 cabinets. I would have thought spreading my sound out would be the shit but Im def second guessing that now. I remembering doing a rehearsal once with a 2x12 on one side of the drums and a 4x12 on the other and thought it sounded pretty good.

With a pa- together
Without a pa- I would spread them unless the club is small.

If you're doing 2, what's another 2 :D
This! 2 full stacks=

Haha , two full stacks would be sick (obnoxious) but sick.

So anyone out there run a 4x12 on each side of the stage and love it ?

I'm a half stack kind of guy so I'd have two amps, two 4x12's side by side, mic the cabs...its the sound guys job for FOH mix. If wireless (or long ass cord) walk the room during soundcheck and give feedback to what you want.

Well, here in the bedroom of doom I run two 412 cabs. I don't have any experience on a stage, but I can tell you as far as speakers, what ever is your favorite speaker with the head(s) you are using, just use more of them.... Unless you find a combo that you like, like K100's and V30's mixed together or something, you are going to be better balanced between cabs with all the same speakers.

I agree with those who've posted keep them together. I've tried it both ways, and I prefer together. If the gear is mic'd then you can always pipe it into the other side of the stage, plus I prefer the sound of my cabs to the monitors, and like the sound be on my side of the stage not in the monitors on my side of the stage anyway.

All cabs have the same speakers Celestion G12-H30's

I use a W/D/W setup and can use more cabs, but mainly have used (3) when I was gigging out w/ this setup.
