Van Hagar haters

I never like VH that much in da 90's why would i like them now.
1991 i was almost killed in an MVA, it took almost a year to walk. It was a big deal.
Then i was raising 2 kids & running a business.

I respected Van Halen more for not trying to replace what DLR and that era was when they got Sammy. They could have asked Marq Torien or some other singer to come in and do the DLR thing but they started something different. Even though they were still called Van Halen, wasn't the same band at all in my mind.
It was painfully obvious that DLR was the brains in the band.

Although the Van Halen's were gifted musicians, they certainly lacked common sense.

Roth was kind of a nobody and older than Eddie, but kept nagging them to join as far as I recall. He was there for their breakthrough and eleven years, but he knew that solo record would be the end of his time in the band.

Van Halen was reduced to nothing, Sammy saved them.

It’s a different product, but the hate the guy got all these decades is unwarranted.

He deserves a medal for putting up with those addict brothers.

You’re lying if you say this song sucks or not have great meaning
Yiu can not deny this one

Van Hagar definitely had better songs. They weren't as gonzo or straight up rocking though. A lot of the Roth era was not quite filler, but there were the great songs and then there were the other songs
Odd, you speak of Roth filler era and yet the entire Balance album is filler and most of OU812 is filler.

Seriously, what is a Roth filler song? Not talking "covers" but originals. I'd just like to know, from your perspective.

Funny you should mention covers, because I would say Diver Down is the exactly kind of thing I'm talking about with filler. Other than maybe 3 songs that whole album feels very phoned in. Covers, song fragments, weaker tracks. Funnily enough, there is a lot of the "soft" stuff that people fuss about with Hagar on that one.

I agree. Diver Down is my least favorite. I’ve never liked it for some reason.

Maybe what a dork like Chubtone, or weinerboy27 or any other guitar nerd on this forum says about which era of the band was better is unimportant. Maybe we should listen to Alex Van Halen clearly state, "We did our best work with Dave"

Still can’t believe Sammy and Michael got caught making out, I wonder if Sammy was singing some of those love songs to him

I actually like Van Hagar a lot, but it's defeinitely not as distinctive as the Roth albums

The edges are smoothed out, but the playing and production went up a notch.

But it does sound neutered as fuck compared to, say,
