Thanxs - but right now I am kind of thinking it well be cool to have one of the " early ones". I am sure I well change my mind over and over agian.

I think the amp looks fine. I still think VHT is "cooler" only for the fact it ISN'T someone's name. I always liked that. That, coupled with few know what VHT really means. Its got a bit of elusiveness to it and that was always kind of cool.

Granted, we all know VHT from forums and being gear whores. At the same time, your average Joe guitar shmuck, probably doesn't. I think they were starting to be a bit wider known...now they go back to scratch, aside from those of us who are already "in the know". Unless there's going to be some kinda mass marketing to promote the new name, I just don't see this as a good move in terms of selling amps. Maybe the business deal was enough to make it not matter much

In a way all the talk about it on the web is free ad's. Most of who know what VHT is knows who Steve Fryette is. I do not think this well hurt him in any way. Other than the name is being stolen in my eyes (so it may appear). If anything it get's both names out there. Most people buy Marshall, Fender or Mesa. I have owned and own a few of all three. Even players that I know that have been playing a long time still say to me" Why did you not get a Marshall ?" I just plug them into my amps and let them figure it out. After some still ask "you could not pay for a real amp". It goes along with the general brian wash that makes me buy a Big Mac a few times a year. The first few bites taste good then I throw it out after a little more than half and wonder why I would buy a Big Mac at all ( one sounds good right now).

Now I want a plate agian to show my "Fryette" so if someone sees me playing it's not a "VHT". I am sure that well change in ten min.

I'm confused (nothing new here). The name doesn't mean much to me, as long as Steve's builiding them. So the Sig-X, Deliverance, etc. will now be branded "Fryette"?

And a "VHT" will be from AXL, based on their designs and manufacturing?

yup...and the new "VHT" already has some low watt combos out.

By the way, anyone flip there VHT name plate upside down?
Looks like Greek letters for a cool ass Frat house !

I read something about AXL recently that said they're a China based company. I believe they have 9 factories in China that make guitar amps, guitars, electronic pianos, etc...

Steve Fryette said in one of those press releases that he recently "consulted" with AXL about a project and enjoyed working with another company. Then in a surprise move, they offered to buy the VHT name.

I wonder what he consulted with them about? Could it have been new manufacturing methods for the Sig:X or something like that? I wonder what that lawsuit is about? Doesn't sound like a friendly consultation to me, but I dunno.
I can tell you this.....AXL is an amp brand of the Music Link which is an american company / distributor that sells among other things those Johnson guitars to music stores, pawn shops etc. AXL is / was their amp line. They have been making tube / ss combos for quite awhile....all their stuff is made in China as far as I know. There were a few of their amps reviewed in Guitar Player awhile ago. They now own the VHT logo. Whatever they do with it, they will do with it....Do we really need to try and stir more crap?

I agree and I have met and spoke to Steve, I will trust his amps regardless of any legal situation. He has created some legendary amps and will continue to lust after a UL and 2150 and continue to love my 2/50/2.

Ok....yeah I want a DL and Sig-X as well :D

I agree, it's interesting to learn the why's behind certain things...

To what end? Selling trademarks / brandnames and companies happen all the time. It's kind of the american way....look at how many brands and companies Fender has bought....its just buisness.

Being sued for trademark infringement, then announcing that you're "selling" your name to the company that sued you is not "just business." There's obviously more to the story, but I guess I'm the only one that's curious about it. <shrug> Oh well. No sweat off my back.

I actually wish Fryette and his company all the success in the world! I love their amps.

+1

..."Earlier this year, I had consulted with AXL and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with another manufacturer. In a surprise move, AXL offered to buy the trademarked VHT brand name and logo. They will now manufacture their own product under that name. The offer to buy was also an opportunity to rebrand the company under my name."...

More info came out on TGP today, but now the thread has been deleted. The court filings are public knowledge and available online. A forum member downloaded the documents and shared the info in the thread. In a nutshell, AXL alleges that they loaned VHT $150,000 and VHT put up their trademarked name as collateral. AXL alleges that VHT didn't repay the loan, so they filed a lawsuit to get exclusive rights to use the VHT name.

Sounds like a pretty shitty situation no matter how you slice it.
FUCK
