i used to watch the tom jones show on tv as a little kid and trip out on how ladies in the studio audience used to throw bras and panties at him!
made wilt chamberlain and gene simmons look like amateurs!

I used to not mind her until every blues/blues-rock female tried to cop her sound. It made the whole thing kinda annoying and now I can't really stand it much either. Tbh there are very few female singers I dig into. Gladys Knight is probably my all time favorite. There is a BB King and friends blues night with Chaka Khan and Etta James and Knight comes out and just destroys them both, lol.

I hate that specific joplin style, it drives me nuts, and Janis most of all
I just don't like listening to female singers in general but for a very few exceptions. I hate it when female singers try to sound and sing like men.
I like Kim Deal's voice, and Tarja and Fleur from Nightwish, and a handful of others
But the vast majority of music (especially pop music) has turned into autotuned Femslop and I just refuse to listen to female vocalists on my own time - I'm already subjected to femslop garbage every time I go into a convenience store or mall, and I've hit capacity.
It's not limited to female singers. I've heard tool and EVH so much it makes me want to off myself too. I'm so sick of hearing it i would never willingly subject myself to it if I have a choice.

I don't listen to multi-purpose FemCeleb "singers" either, I can agree with you there. Their primary path to truly vast wealth these days is hawking merchandise, no artistry to be found anywhere, just brand whoring.

Sir Tom Jones has a thing about drugs. Happy as he is living the good life, the Welsh boy from the valleys strongly disapproves of them, not least on aesthetic grounds. He can't stand seeing people cutting lines of coke in loos. Nor has he ever taken any, he insists to The Sunday Times's Bryan Appleyard. "I've never touched drugs. I've never even smoked a joint." In his new and very funny autobiography he recalls a party at Lulu's house in the early 1970s. Guests included Rod Stewart, Robert Plant and Elton John and in the kitchen was a "mound of cocaine, reaching towards the ceiling virtually a slag-heap of cocaine, with straws sticking out of it".
Where Jones came from in Wales, cocaine was something the dentist gave you. It was called Novocaine. "I was doing my TV show in about 1970 and Smokey Robinson asked me if we had any of this white powder. I said, What do you think I am, a f****** dentist?'" The idea of taking it for fun seemed "alien".

The first "band" I was ever in, I was like 14, and already a blues guy but I wanted to be in a band so I played with a group of older high schoolers that wanted to do pixies and ramones covers, lol. Damn, we was horrible but hey, it was a playing opportunity so I took it.

Yep, it articulates something that I've always "known" but never been able to communicate myself; that popular media (not just music but movies, video games, books, everything) has been relentlessly feminized within an inch of it's life.
Quite literally everything is femslop now. Nearly every video game or movie ruined by woman politics. And music has suffered the worst.
It's literally all disposable girl-garbage. 50 years ago there were men making masculine music in the freaking top 40 charts.

I can certainly see how that would suck as a blues musician, but if you learned "gigantic" or "pet sematary" you probably learned a little bit about structuring a song as a teenager

Well truthfully at the time, and still to this day, I don't much care for the pixies but as I said it was a playing opportunity and was networking too as the drummer's dad owned a club so later when I had my own band and she ran his club we got booked there pretty frequently. I did quite a few shows on the bill with punk and metal bands for skatepark benefits and such. My bro was very much a metal drummer at the time and had his own group. We were enemies, now he works for me, LOL.The pixies and ramones are both top notch song writers

I was hungry for playing opportunities and in my AO at the time they were few and far between so I took what I could get. I kind of view playing live as cumulative experience. A dozen gigs turns into hundreds turns into thousands until you get pretty good at it. There are very few gigs I look back on and regret doing. I could probably number them on one hand, if that.
