Watching Styx on vh1

they have always been tight. blew me away back in 80 and then again in like 2001.

I'd call myself a casual fan. (Enough to listen to their 'Best Of' pretty regularly)

I've dug Tommy's voice ever since I first heard him on the Damn Yankees singles from the 80's.

My first exposure to their catalog beyond 'Come Sail Away' was their Return To Paradise concert I caught on VH1 or something. I remember thinking JY was quite a solid player and I thought to myself 'I wonder why I never really hear guys referring to him as an influence.'
I also really dug their vocal harmonies.
"Fooling Yourself" is definitely a favorite!

They've got this mainstream reputation as being a "novelty" rock band.... which is total bullshit because they are super talented!

Ah, revisionist history...for those old enough to remember, Styx ruled the world for a span of about 5 or 6 albums. That's about as good as it gets for ANY rock band.

I too thought the spinning keyboard was extremely cheezy. And why do they need 2 bass players?

I eventually had to turn it off and sit in a dark corner. The brightness of the stage show was making me light-sensitive.

That was their original bassist who was a 'special guest'

He might as well been a statue up there cuz he sure looked like one

Havent seen it yet, but it sounds like the keyboard player= Jannick (sp?) when kinda killed the vibe in the Iron Maiden tour DVD acting a little too goofy...

That's kinda what it reminded me of but no where near as bad as Maiden. :scared:
